Random Survival Tip# 16- The Unfortunate Nuclear Possibility!

in #survival7 years ago (edited)

Well Ladies and Gents; Let me start out by saying that I am sorry that I did not post yesterday. I had an early morning meeting between my face and the porcelain god! I am however feeling a bit better today! So without any further jibber jabber let's get on to the topic at hand!

So today we will cover something that has become a real "Unfortunate Possibility." With this being said, I am sure you know that I am talking about a nuclear explosion of some sort. There are nuclear reactors and of course threats of nuclear launches; making this somewhat of a possible disaster scenario!

While this may be a scary thing to even consider; we still may want to know what to do in the event that something like this happens to us! So lets get down to what to do immediately in the event of a nuclear explosion!

Step 1

If you happen to be unlucky enough to be outside in the event of a blast (Nuclear Type); The first thing you want to do is hit the deck, make yourself as flat as possible and cover as many exposed areas as possible. This will help decrease the amount of direct exposure to the skin. Also while doing this' avert your eyes from the nice shiny light that the blast will produce. This light can and most likely will blind you!

Step 2

Seek immediate cover after the blast has subsided! Your safest bet is to find cover within five minutes of the blast. This shelter may include your own home basement, storm cellar, a covered hole minimum of four feet deep, a small water arch under a roadway that you can cover with items in the immediate area, or even an abandoned structure of some sort! You may make improvement upon your shelter after the fact! It helps to have a shelter with readily available water if possible!

Step 3

Begin the decontamination process by removing your clothing and washing the skin lightly without too much pressure. Added pressure may be a very raw deal for skin that has been exposed to a nuclear blast! Basically treat the skin as if it were a burn injury! Remove all contaminated items from your shelter to reduce risk of further exposure (Clothing and items worn during exposure). you may clean your clothes after you are able to leave your shelter. when cleaning clothing do not wring out inside your shelter as this will contaminate the area.

Step 4

Keep yourself warm and rest in your shelter after you feel as if it is safe enough to be covered from radiation! If possible keep hydrated with available water source. You should try to seek a water source within your shelter if possible. Avoid exposure for atleast 2 days.

Step 5

Seek a water source and attempt to seek food with a minimum of a half an hour of exposure on day 3. Water is an absolute MUST at this point!!! Food is a secondary resource in the beginning phase. Any water found outside your shelter should be purified by boiling. I personally would feel better about purifying any water procured. You may seek sources such as bottled water, underground water by digging or in pipes, water in natural sources (below the surface to avoid further contamination).

Step 6

Seek food in the form of canned goods or vacuum sealed goods, plants growing underground such as potatoes, turnips, carrots and other tuber plants. Always make sure you skin and clean any contaminated items before consumption! Do not eat any animals that you have found dead and do not eat them without proper skinning and cleaning procedures. Then make sure your critters are thoroughly cooked.

Step 7

Produce a routine on how to find food and water and try to avoid overexposure to radiation. If at all possible make plans to move yourself away from the area alittle bit at a time. This way you can eventually get to a safer area with less or no radiation at all. So pack light and keep necessities with you along the way! Continue this routine and maintain situational awareness. Complacency could be the death of you! So make a plan and stick to it; build on to it if there is room for improvement and strive to survive. A positive mentality could be the game change you need!

Now like I said, this is a scary situation to think about. But, it is a possibility and something that should be planned for just in case! So I hope that this never happens but if it does, we must be prepared to take charge of the situation and thrive! This is just some minimal information to have in the "tool box" for safe keeping! I hope that this post may be useful to you and thank you for reading! Stay safe and stay prepared everyone!

Scary but unfortunately a situation we must all be prepared for. I wish for all of us it never comes to this but in case it does, let's be prepared.

Hope you feel tons better!⭐️

meep

Yea it truly is a freaky thing to think about. But yes we must be prepared and knowing what to do is 75% of the battle. Knowledge is power! And thank you for that, I do feel a tad better today. It was so bad yesterday. Lol

So true!
And whatever you ate yesterday, please don't do it again haha :)

Yea, I'm going to avoid the local Chinese food for a little bit. Lol. : P

Doesn't sound like fun! Please take care of yourself 🌱

Thank you. I will. Plenty of fluids for this guy. Lol.

Good post! I like Iodine tabs for water too. Nasty tasting but easy to use.

Yes sir! I keep a bottle of those in my bag. This weekend I'm going to try to do a charcoal water filter video as well.

Ah good. Looking forward to watching it!

Thanks brother. I'll try to make it a good one! : )

Interesting. Thanks for posting.

Thank you! : )

Welcome back man. No need to be sorry. :-)

Thanks brother! : )

Fortunately we haven't had a looming nuclear threat since the Cuban Missile Crisis but the excessive saber-rattling occurring on what now seems like a daily basis is very disconcerting

Yes sir! And for all we know it could come without the threats and taunts. It could come from someone we never worried about! This is the scary part of it! You never know what could happen in the world nowadays. Everyone is all "My gun's bigger than your gun." Lol.

sry to hear that you are not feeling well and I am hope for a speedy recovery. As far as the post is concerned is contained a load of information and should be considered by all as an addition to their current preps. Again I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks brother. I think it was just a bad meal, but yesterday was a "fun" day. Lol. But also thank you in regards to the post as well. I tried to throw out all the old Marine Corps Gas Chamber class information. After sitting through it every year for 4 years I retained some of the information. Haha.

This would definitely usher in the beginning of TEOTWAWKI. Great post brother! When I read Step 1, I thought to myself, "bend over and kiss your ash goodbye". Lol Get well soon.

Lol. That might be the first step if your too close to the blasst! Haha. You may as well test your flexibility at that point. Thank for wishing me well brother. I appreciate it! : )

Awww! I am so sorry you were sick! :(
Great post. None of us want to even contemplate a nuclear threat, but it could be a possibility and I for one want to be prepared. I did not realize that we should lay flat on the ground! Thank you! Makes sense! Keeping some of the iodine tabs in the shelter would be great in the event you don't have your bag handy. Sorry I am so far behind on your posts! I am catching up today!

Thank you! And yes a nuclear threat is definitely a rough thought, but we can't rule anything out! Laying flat is the best possible way to hopefully avoid being badly burned or exposed to too much radiation. Obviously anything in the blast radius would be incinerated unfortunately, but miles away you are going to want to get as low and flat as possible. : ) The iodine tabs are a great addition! But in the event we have to pick a random spot to shelter; it is best to think about where would be best to have water and be able to spark up a fire! I hope no one ever has to experience that though! But take your time on catch up! I will keep tagging you so you know when I get em out! : ) Thank you so much as always Oily! : )

Definitely true! We are not always going to be by our pre-made shelter! It is definitely a frightening thought but learning what to do ahead of time is the best way to increase our chances of survival. Thanks to you and other fellow preppers, I learn more and more every single day! 😉

Knowledge is power! : ) And when you know what to do and know it well it should just click when it needs to. I always learn good things here on Steemit as well! I love it! Thank you so much! : )
