Greetings from Bull City, Steemers!

Hello. I'm Dave.

Cheers, Steemit!

I've been dabbling in blockchain-based currencies for a few years now -- mostly small amounts for gambling and speculative purposes, which has not served me particularly well, but it's been an interesting ride. Having stumbled across Steem and wondering what all the fuss is, I've decided to come join the party here to share a few of my own thoughts and ideas.

About me:

I am a music podcaster-turned-radio DJ. My show, Dave's Lounge, is broadcast on Sunday afternoons at 3:00 PM Eastern Time on WHUP FM, a low-power community radio station in Hillsborough, NC, with a small transmitter but a worldwide streaming platform. (i.e., Anyone on the planet with an internet connection can tune in and listen.)

Dave's Lounge showcases the best in trip hop and downtempo electronic music from indie artists and labels. Nearly all of my 325 podcast shows are still available for download, and I'm continuing to distribute my radio show as a podcast, and on Mixcloud. I occasionally make my own music, too, which I hope to share here periodically.

I also do a bit of live DJing.

I'm heavily involved in the blues dance and fusion dance communities here in Durham, NC, and you can often catch me DJing at Dance Blues Friday, a weekly blues dance in Durham, or at some of our fusion dances, where you'll hear a lot of downtempo electronic tunes like I play on the radio. I've been blues dancing since about 2004 and was a lindy-hopper well before that. I dig me some Chicago blues music, so I keep coming back.

That's my wife, BTW. She's pretty awesome.

I grew up a huge sports fan and was a sports blogger for a quite a while. I wrote about the NFL and soccer for an AOL Sports blog called FanHouse for a couple years -- paid off my credit card bills and had fun doing it. These days, I channel most of my sporting fandom into my local NASL soccer club, the Carolina RailHawks. You'll find me doing this a lot at home games:

I'm also a pretty big college basketball fan, having moved to North Carolina right around the time that UNC and NC State were winning championships. I drifted toward the Duke Blue Devils as my chosen team, though, and got to go to the Hoosier Dome in 1991 to see them win their first NCAA title in person. That was a fantastic night.

The NCAA is a even more of a total ripoff for young football and basketball players these days, but it hasn't stopped me from watching college hoops.

Speaking of ripoffs, I'm also an advocate for "cutting the cord", i.e. ditching cable TV. I created a web site a few years ago called What You Pay For Sports, which details how much of your money gets funneled to various pro and college sports organizations through your cable TV bill -- whether you watch sports or not. (I do, but I got rid of cable three years ago regardless and haven't looked back.) I intend to share some of my thoughts about ESPN's business model here and hope to influence a few people to cut their cords and dump their dishes. (Though if you're hanging out here, you've probably figured all that out by now.)

As for cryptocurrency, I don't intend to talk about that too much here. I currently have no bitcoin and a bit of DASH tied up in masternode shares, which is currently giving me an 8.5% return on my money. Compared to the 2.25% I get from my local credit union, that's not too shabby. I dig what DASH is doing right now with its governance model -- especially compared to what's happening with Bitcoin and Ethereum right now -- and I'm eager to see how they plan to implement future services.

That's all for now. I'll start writing about things more interesting than myself here very soon.

Bye
