A New Creature

Text: 2 Corinthians 5:17-19

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

The goal of anyone who professes the Christian faith is to be new a creature, not only in terms of having a new name but living a new life, having a new heart and new nature. Old thoughts, old thinking, old beliefs, old habits, old communication are passed away for a new creature to emerge, made possible by the change the grace of God made in the soul. In the new world in the soul, all things are new and old things are passed away.

Any good thing that we have not accepted in the mind cannot enter the heart. Absence of good values in the heart weakens the conscience, a situation that will immediately change when a man puts on Christ; then, he becomes a new creature with a new mind and a new heart (Ezekiel.18:31). To become a new creature, God creates new hearts inside His spiritual children by giving them His spirit to become born again through water baptism. In the old dispensation, only a few chosen ones had this privilege, but now Christ had made this grace open to whosoever comes to Him. A look into the life of Saul showed how this process works, when Samuel anointed Saul, the spirit of the Lord came upon him, the Bible stated that he was turned into another man and had another heart (1 Sam. 10:6,9).

Christians are supposed to live supernatural and extraordinary lives but we need the consciousness of the spirit to do this. Life and its challenges become understandable and less mysterious to us when we begin to operate with spiritual consciousness. A believer who has a new spirit from God cannot be carried away wrongfully by what people say or do; he or she interprets everything they see from spiritual perspective. This is manifested in the way they conduct their lives in words and deeds.
