Share with us a difficult moment in your life you faced

‎Sickness is inevitable, but you can help or rescue yourself if you apply wisdom in your lifestyle. Pains and banes are just for the moment; they never last forever. Definitely, there comes a time when you'd be set free.

On my sick bed at home

‎Around December 2021 to February 2022, I suffered from a major illness that nearly took my life away. It's not something strange; it was hypertension. The bastard got me when I least expected him to. It was so serious that I was bedridden. I hated myself because I couldn't work anymore. It affected every aspect of my life, from my daily routine to my relationships and even my mental health.

‎I had never had such an experience, so I was naive and hopeless. I thought I was going to lose my life. Things got worse. I felt lonely when everyone left me all alone at home, wondering if I'd ever recover. It was a tough season, and I started feeling numbness on one side of my body. You should know what that means - symptoms of stroke. It was scary, but I knew I had to act fast.

How did I survive that moment? Tell us what I did or didn't do.

‎With all that happening, I still managed to stay positive. I never knew anything about hypertension, so I took my phone and surfed the net to educate myself. I read about the symptoms, causes, and management strategies. After the self-taught education, I applied the teachings in real life, making significant lifestyle changes.

Playing with kids outside to avoid depression from overwhelming me

What I did:

‎1. I started checking my BP regularly, at least once daily, to monitor my condition.

‎2. I slept early and practiced all the sleep hygiene I learned, creating a relaxing bedtime routine.

‎3. I ate food that didn't have much chlorine, cutting down on salt, Maggi seasoning, and spicy food. I focused on fruits, veggies, and whole grains.

‎4. I ran around the block daily to exercise my body, gradually increasing my physical activity.

‎5. I stopped taking alcohol, a significant change for me.

‎6. I disengaged myself from parties or settings where people smoke, prioritizing my health.

‎7. I started cooking my own meals from scratch, making sure they were healthy and suitable for my condition.

‎8. I visited UUTH for proper medical checkup and attention, following doctor's advice diligently.

At the OPD in the hospital and some of my medications

What I didn't do:

‎1. I didn't stay in touch with friends who smoke or engage in unhealthy habits.

‎2. I didn't eat in restaurants, opting for home-cooked meals instead.

‎3. I didn't stay alone at home; I played with the kids to lift me out of depression.

‎4. I detested liquor with pride, avoiding temptation.

‎5. I didn't joke with doctor's appointments, prescriptions, or advice, taking my health seriously.

‎6. I limited my phone use, keeping it on DND to reduce stress.

‎7. I avoided loud music, giving my head a break.

‎8. I didn't skip my daily exercise routine, staying committed to my recovery.

Went to cut my hair after recovering

What's your advice for anyone going through a difficult time right now?

‎My advice is: no matter what happens, "Never give up." No pain is permanent; it will pass in due time. Don't make rash decisions during such times. Tough seasons make you strong and invincible when you're done facing them squarely.

New looks after recovery

‎Be patient with yourself; it's only for the moment. Everything will return to normal, and you'll recover strong and smart. Don't listen to flimsy advice from inexperienced people; get professionals to handle the problem if need be. Trust in God; He makes everything possible, goes beyond human intelligence, and works miracles and wonders.

‎I like to use this opportunity to invite my friends just to participate in the contest.
