History of occurrence
The art of quilling first arose in medieval Europe. Monks twisted the gilded paper strips on the tip of the bird's feather to create edging books or icons. The resulting frame helped to create a golden miniature effect, so the technique was actively used in poor churches.
In the nineteenth century, paper circulation became a common passion for noble ladies, but at the beginning of the 20th century it was temporarily forgotten. Interestingly, quilling seriously took a great interest in Elizabeth II. Some of the works of the queen are exhibited in the London museum.
The history of quilling
There are two schools of quilling: Eastern and European. Their main difference lies in the different approach to the design of works. European works are laconic and are most often used to decorate postcards and frames. And the eastern can immediately be recognized by a multitude of small details. Often they use a hundred elements that create a volume "lace".
