FOR YOU (an original poetry) + Small Talk About Where I Got the Inspiration (Heian Period)

in #poetry5 years ago

Being born in this world, for me, was simply existing
I strived and searched... trying to figure out its meaning
Walking day by day; watching the sun rise and set
Experiencing life; gathering memories I might soon forget

As my journey continued to progress gradually
I found a flower which pulled me closer naturally
A flower which blossoms apart from the rest
She, from that moment I knew, was the best

At first, I was plainly existing
But when I met her, I started living
My life started to have its meaning
I felt that I'm no longer dreaming

The long, far and wide search is finally over
For when I found her; I also found the answer
By her side was where I've always wanted to be
At last, my once fleeting dream became reality

The poem above is inspired from the 50th entry of Hyakunin Isshu (a Japanese compilation of 100 poems). This 50th poem is among my favorites from that collection. Let me show you the original poem by Fujiwara no Yoshitaka.

Fujiwara no Yoshitaka is among the Japanese poets from the Heian period who I admire. Unfortunately though, he died very young. According to some articles I've read about him in the past, he died at the age of 20.

It's sad how this poem of his showed how eager he was to live because he finally found the love of his life. They actually had a son named Yukinari and was a very famous calligrapher.

If I'm not mistaken, Yoshitaka's son also wrote some poems. During the Heian period, people exchange written messages sometimes in the form of poetry. (This is why I'm so attracted to Heian Period). Yukinari has once exchanged messages in the form of poetry with Sei Shonagon. And it was so interesting... they're somehow sarcastic in some way, but somewhat endearing. I don't know. I just feel that there's something between them. T_T I want to read The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon. I hope there's a translated version. I want to really check what's between them.

Sorry... I talked too much about Yukinari and Sei Shonagon, even though the author of the poem where I got my inspiration was Yukinari's father. Somehow I wonder, "what if Fujiwara no Yoshitaka didn't die young?" Will he have made more lovely poetry for us to enjoy today?

I want to write like them... I want to play with word and create a masterpiece. Poetry is one way I express myself... Poetry aids in unleashing my inner thoughts and deeper emotions. I'm glad poetry exists.

It's almost 1 in the morning, so I have to wrap this up. Thanks a lot for checking out my poem. Until next time! (^_^)v
