After 6 months and 4 days we finally have internet again

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

We have been without internet for a little longer than 6 and a half months

When we first moved we went to Comcast and then found out because our house is a new build they had to do a study to see if they even offer services at our location. We knew they did because all the neighbors have Comcast, On June 26th the study came back that yes we could but they needed our permission to get the permit from the state they would need, we gave it knowing it would take 4-6 weeks for them to get the permit they needed to do their work. After 6 weeks I contacted them again and no one had any answers for me.

This started the long back and forth with Comcast to get my service on

Seriously frustrating for someone who either makes her living online or at least connects to potential clients online, for those who don't know I also do portrait photography to make money. It is hard to connect with clients or blog without internet. Depending on my phone to do work has sucked. And to update anything has been really hard. So I been back and forth with them for month. Finally I got fed up and made a phone call.

Calling the Utility Commission

This is a last resort ditch effort to get my service on. After 6 months and 2 days I made a phone call to the Indiana Utility Commission. Every state has a Utility Commission, they are there to enforce utility companies to do their job and to help consumers resolve complaints. It isn't the first call you make it is the last one you make when all other efforts have failed. That seemed to help, if you ask me cause with-in 12 hours of that phone call Comcast was out doing their work across the street and they call me to set up installation of my internet for this morning. I am overwhelmingly happy at this moment, as it has been so long since I have been able to post without regards to how big that photo file is.

The line still needs to be buried another company comes out to do that in a week or two

To have internet again is so wonderful

I didn't realize till we didn't have it how much I really do depend on internet to run my business, keep in touch with others, and even entertainment. I am very happy I can get back to my normal daily activities. I have felt so disconnected not being able to do them that I am almost so happy that I feel like crying happy tears.

yayyyyy for internet! That’s gotta feel so good. Now spam post like crazy and make that money! Lol

I been doing what I can today. Tomorrow I will have more time. But I am already all over those comments I will be hitting your blog up in a bit.

So glad you're back on the broadband! I can't believe how long it took to get this set up. All that waiting for work that was done in a single day!

Comcast is the absolute worst. The other day they cut off all telephone service in two zip codes of Boston for an entire day. This meant no phone orders or credit card processing for us (and 500 other businesses, apparently) - a hugely expensive interruption!

Then you know how much it can cost not having it. My income has decreased by $400 or so a week over the last 6 months. Yeah this has hurt bad....

Ouch! It really feels like utilities should be responsible for lost income when they don't provide the basic services we rely on.
