So in This 'Editing Videos 101' post/live stream, I basically showed you how I like to edit a video together. And in that live stream you got to see all the tips and tricks that I like to use so when you come to make a video, you have a better idea of how you can go about it.
The Media Used..
- A while back, myself (Stu @TechMojo), @Deeviras and another friend went climbing, and I took along my camera gear to record some of the climbing action with the intention of editing it together into a small video along with some music.
Admittedly it was a while ago and I never got round to making the video. I stumbled across the files on one of my drives and thought it would be a good excuse to make a live stream. Killing two birds with one stone so to speak.
The audio track that I used is by an artist by the name of O M II N, that I was given a while back for use with another project that fell through. However, the track is royalty and copyright free to use as I wanted to, along with some of the other audio tracks I have. The progressive house genre was a perfect match for this style of video that I created and works really well with the video source.

Tips & Tricks.
- There are several different things that I use in order to edit a video together. The main problem was that I had 50 video clips to look through and determine which ones I wanted to use.
- Scratch & Cut
Many people tend to just watch the clip as a whole cutting out sections that they want to use. While this is good for short clips and if you have the time, but not so good if you have hours of footage and only a short time to edit. Such as when I was streaming. The best way to find the clips you want to use is to scratch through the clip, using the slider, or speeding up the playback and then rough cutting what it is you want to use.
- Media Order.
After the rough cuts, you will want to have several lines of video tracks available so you can appropriately stack the videos in order of there progress. For instance, in the stream, I used the bottom track for the full clip, the second track for the rough clips, third track for refined clips, and the top track for the actual final video that you want to use. It is a very basic setup, and one that is easy to duplicate, makes your workload more organised and makes your editing process much quicker.
- Matching Audio.
This is totally dependant on the style of video that you want to make. In the stream, I was making a 'Sporting' video that typically has music that enhances the overall experience. To that end, I specifically edited the video in such a way that each clip would last for a single beat of the music up to 4 beats, 8 beats, 16 and so on. This is so the transitions between clips will match the rhythm of the music.

The are of course more tips such as transitioning to and from black or white. How to extend or shorten the transitions, how to add info titles like the song introduction, @Deeviras' introduction and the end credit, along with how to manipulate the text to make it stand out or blend into the video. And finally how to make the video image ''Pop'' and stand out more my layering with blurs, saturations and contrasts.
So I hope you enjoy the final product. If you want any info or help with anything like this, then don't hesitate to contact either myself or a member of our team in the @TechMojo Discord Channel HERE
