Steemit Tech Update - Quantum Computers, Crypto Wristbands, Smartguns and More!
Are you ready for this week's Steemit Tech Update?
In this week's report we will look at several interesting topics reported on and trending in the Steemit community. Topics include Quantum Computers, Crypto Wristbands, Next-Gen High-Speed Batteries and State-of-the-art Smartguns.
The following are a few interesting new technologies that may become extremely popular due to mass adoption in the coming years:
1.) Quantum Computers
Quantum computers have been advancing by leaps and bounds in 2017. The building blocks of quantum computers are called Qubits and for the most part they are still a work in progress.
Now, a team from the MIT-Harvard Center for Ultracold Atoms (CUA) has just brought the world one step closer to quantum computing by creating qubits that are able to retain the information they store hundreds of times longer than anyone has previously achieved.
According to a recent article put out by NBC News, scientists interviewed believe that an array of 1,000 of these molecules (Qubits) could carry out calculations so complex, no computer existing today could verify them.
This could make blockchain technology obsolete and may push a new cryptocurrency rush into 'Quantum Secure' blockchain currencies.
2.) Cryptocurrency Wristbands
When conducting research into this topic I came across a post from fellow community member @sirwinchester 'New Cryptocurrency Wristband Lets You Pay Without Any Phone Or Electronics!' and I hope he doesn't mind me chiming in with my own research on this subject.
According to him an Irish company called Bitcart recently announced a new product for sale called the 'Festy' which allows people to make payments for real world goods using cryptocurrency.
Bitcart, an irish platform for discount gift cards, has just launched Festy - a wearable with which you can pay in DASH.
According to @sirwinchester's article, the wristband has several interesting features including QR codes and NFC technology. Furthermore it has a very good use case already integrating with local / national festivals and allowing festival users to pay for their food and drinks with the 'Festy'.
This is another step towards cryptocurrency becoming completely mainstream and should bring more attention to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in general in the coming months!
3.) Smartguns
Originally intended to prevent firearm accidents a recent development with the technology has uncovered that certain types of magnets can actually override their safety mechanisms in effect turning smartguns into regular guns.
Just like anything with a lithium-based battery has the potential to explode, just about any tech product that’s considered “smart” is potentially hackable. Which is why one clever hacker was able to break the Armatix iP1, a smart gun that is designed to only be fired by a person wearing a paired smartwatch.
The hacker, known as Plore, recently discovered that he could shoot the gun without wearing the paired watch by placing just $15 worth of strong magnets next to the weapon. He also managed to disable the weapon remotely by jamming radio signals so it couldn’t shoot. Plore built a $20 transmitter to emit the same 900 MHz frequency (also used by baby monitors and cordless phones) that the gun and smart watch use to send signals, overwhelming all communication between the device and weapon.
Once this technology has all the bugs worked out of it, it may be a wise idea to conduct further research in this technology because of this potentially huge and growing market for advanced firearms.
Final Statement
All of these new developments are quite interesting and we will see the near term effects of these new technological advancements and blunders in the coming months.
Staying on top of the fast-paced world of technological developments can be incredibly hard so thats what we aim to solve with up-to-date trending tech news reports!

Great post @techblogger, looking forward to the next installment!
Thanks for reading bulleth! We appreciate your support.
I like hearing about crypto related tech being adopted by the mainstream. The festy wrist band is a good idea for not having to carry your wallet around.
The beginning hasn't even started yet :)
@techblogger, I want to get such a wristband right now :D Okay, maybe as soon as it´s possible to pay with it in daily life easily. Just imagine, no wallet anymore, just a wristband, maybe even integrated in a nice watch :)
