Presearch Community: Colin Pape's Speech On Decentralization At United We Stand

Last Sunday, Presearch attended United We Stand Fest in College Station, Texas (the University of Texas A&M) where founder Colin Pape discussed decentralization, the route Presearch will be headed in the next couple months and what true decentralizing means for the world, here are some highlights from Pape's speech.

Pape expressed that through decentralization and the movement to decentralize we can restore the balance of power within society. However, he noted that most people don't truly understand what true decentralization would mean for humanity. 

Using an example of government and financial institutions Pape stated that "there has been a thought sewn and reinforced that we need someone to trust." Expanding on that thought he said that currently, trust is misplaced. 

 "We can't trust ourselves with money, storing value or exchanging so we need banks. Or we can't decide how to allocate resources and how to make things happen so we need governments," Pape said. 

Decentralization is about peer to peer trust, and taking away power from the centralized systems shifting away from the current governance, moving forward into a better future.

Pape further detailed how decentralization allows for individuals to get involved and to get a project funded using financial mechanisms like Bitcoin.

Colin also touched on the rise of surveillance technology and the surveillance state. 

An issue that has come to the forefront more so recently with the Facebook Cambridge Analytica scandal, forcing users to rethink where their data is shared and with whom.Colin Pape ended his speech by stating "we need to utilize things more effectively to further the individual for us to bring apart a better future that is more aligned with our beliefs and values it's important to seize the opportunity and inspire each other."

The two discussed a myriad of topics including decentralization, the future of Presearch and Colin's vision for the project to name a few things.
