looking at dropshipping with shopify but with eco considerations of local and clean delivery.

Both myself and dayle have been wanting to make our own products for years. I’ve got a whole bunch of things I want to laser cut out of a variety of materials for both streamers and gifts and @dayleeo has a whole range of products for the digital nomad on the move (can’t tell you more than that right now but trust me they are awesome!)

This is not something just ‘magic’ we came up with either this has been on our minds for the last few years and it’s on the back of dayle doing incredibly well with her packaging and design services and the fact that I’ve already experimented with laser cutting previously at co-working spaces — I know that together we can run that kind of business across the web and we can pull it together if we were in the same space.

is dropshipping a business and a ‘career’

Ok, of course it’s a business. Stupid question, if you are buying and selling a product of course it’s a business. But then are you really a business person with a career if you are just buying a product in another country cheap and shipping it at great cost to the environment to the other side of the world just to sell it as a ‘profit’ so you make more money — is this what the majority of ‘business’ is these days? seems like we need to evolve our thinking of what a world with evolved businesses looks like that does not destroy the planet in the process — at least running a business that can be sustainable, that’s what I want to build! :)

don’t want just to be a middleman!

If I run a dropshipping business I want it to be something where we are not just the middleman between supplier and end user, I want to document the whole journey from raw material to end of life of that product, the whole storytelling component of end to end what it is to build a product to service a need and at what expense to the person who ends up using it — I’d love for instance to interview sustainable businesses who’s raw material and product we use and to document how that raw material travels to us, maybe have some kind of website tracking to document that.

but then you have to be concerned with GDPR!

Ugh, more paperwork, more middlemen, who needs all that. Maybe the dropshipping business should just be focused on the US marketplace then, maybe that’s easier to setup a satellite company and just do everything in America, maybe that’s why a lot of business is moving out of the EU to the US because of all of this eventual red tape that you bump into — I’d much prefer to work on the product rather than deal with all this admin stuff!

I realise that’s part and parcel of having a ‘business’ but then if you are creatively minded and not ‘business’ minded can you really make a ‘success’ of it? I’m not sure. I’ve always had that issue of hitting up against the uncreative side of business networking and found it so very DRY.

From raw material to end of life, surely that’s something to aim for right? Surely that’s the next place that a local drop shipper could look like, connected together with crypto stable coin you could build out a real world product economy connected to a digital one?

I guess I’m just trying to fuse together all the things I like currently into one — the notion of electrified transportation and distribution, local dropshipping and a stable coin crypto community connected together over a hundred miles with multiple mesh nodes working together as a local community buying and selling and providing value together in a small but efficient area — from honey from the bees to local cheeses and beers, lifestyle and health products for those that have to travel and the stables of products that people need on a daily and weekly basis. ..

It’s hard being a creative sometimes because you worry that you might drop the ball on something along the route.. . I guess the only way to know is to try, fail fast and try again!
