Dear @Dtube #67 // I was asked to build a website today, felt like I jumped to the 80’s

in #daily-vlog6 years ago

bolt from the blue this morning i had a client job request via Facebook of all places, it actually came in last night and i picked it up first thing this morning as i was pretty foggy brain by the time i got to bed last night, always best if i approach that fresh in the morning.

turns out an old raver mate wanted a website doing, nothing fancy, just a landing page setup, contact form, something reliable, cheap no doubt and ideally ready for next monday — he’s a top bloke so obviously i wanna see him right and do for a reasonable fee.

the weird thing was that i’ve not really entertained ‘clients’ or projects for ages now, not in the usual sense of the word anyway, it’s crazy how decentralised blockchain working has changed the way i approach sourcing work massively, the bottom line now is that i only work on projects that i will enjoy and that are stress free

i don’t have to take every project or job now just for the money i can pick and choose currently — if you have value in the right systems and projects you can sustain yourself based on the hours and work you want to do, it’s 2018 you don’t have to do work you don’t love or feel passionate about, you really don’t.

i mean, heck if you have some savings i’d say the move right now is to spend 10k hours learning three of the biggest gaming titles out there in the world right now and find yourself some partnering sponsorship — while not all streamers make it (that’s straight facts) the fact that you can create your own portal/tvstation and audience development from your connection to the internet is massive — your hours, your terms, at your pace.

another thing i’d say that has changed is ‘payment’ — there is no need in 2018 to be ‘waiting on the cheque’ — we have url links now for instant payment, that’s a huge relationship leap between doing the job and getting paid for the job, in this day and age there is no excuse for not instant payment — even if it’s just half for the job and the rest on completion.

it’s the life blood of a small entrepreneur or business that they have liquid funds to be able to be flexible and keep it moving — most digital workers are remote now, in transition between countries or co-working spaces or have multiple clients to work for.

for me personally blockchains have given me back a sense of time, i feel in tune with the ‘ledger’ way of operating, instant transfers, short time frames for operations to happen, fully trackable public viewable history that anyone can see, great tools that are reliable — no middlemen, perfect! :)

even if you are not dealing with any crypto currency, even if you don’t store any crypto in a portfolio i’d say playing with a blockchain is a valuable thing for you to learn and understand in 2018 — you don’t have to understand how the whole thing works, i don’t totally understand the rate of daily steem emission creation for instance and i don’t feel i need too, i have the basics for operation and usage and that get’s me by.

i’m a geek not a nerd when it comes to my technology, i don’t feel like i need to have every single detail locked down in my brain like that — it would only make me question how other things work and that would take me down some quantum blackhole where i’d lose sight of what it was to be a human being on this suffocating planet.

play with a blockchain, when you see how easy they are you’ll wonder why the rest of your digital tools and software don’t work in the same way, then you’ll change and then you’ll make the tools work for you.
