@dlike Enters Android Beta

I saw a post on my feed earlier today which excited me.

@dlike announced they are now in Beta with an Android application. This is vital for an app like that since many who post photo based content do so from phones. Also, over the next couple years, I believe the mobile based applications will fare the best since most of the new users to the Internet are going to be via mobile devices.

As most of you know, I love those applications with development teams that hit it hard and heavy. An application that is brought out is not appealing to me if there is little added to it. This does not instill confidence in me with the development team. There are many projects on Steem that were put up and just left. The applications work but I do not hold high hope for them.

@dlike is one that really peaked my interest. To start, it is very simple to use. In an industry that has challenges with ease of use, this is refreshing since it takes under 5 minutes to figure out how to use the site.

Also, I love the idea of people posting what interests them or those things they find cool. This is what appeals to the vast number of users on the Internet. In fact, it is the highest majority of social media. If you look at most of the major sites, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, only a small percentage is dedicated to "serious" content. The rest is people posting what interests them.

Even crypto's biggest hit, thus far, CryptoKitties was nothing more than a silly game that attracted the interest of people. I still recall all the people about a year ago walking around the park looking at their phones trying to find Pokeman.

There is no accounting for the interests of the general public.

In reading the post, there are some interesting features to the Android application.

The first thing that jumped out at me is the fact that the camera on the phone can be accessed allowing for the direct posting of pictures. Even though there is a competitive market out there with APPICs coming, @steepshot, and @share2steem targeting Instagram posts, this has enormous potential. At the moment, using @dlike to post photos earns one coins that will be brought to market using the SMT protocol (unless they ERC20 first; either way, in the Spring they will be SMT).

In 2015, there were more than 1.T pictures taken. I am sure a vast percentage of them were posted somewhere on the Internet. Over the past couple years, I only imagine this number went higher.

The second feature that struck me is the ability to save posts and edit them later. I did not see this function on the website although, to be honest, I never looked that hard. This is something handy for those times one is interrupted or does not have time to complete something.

Also, there is a feature that allows for auto-publishing by setting a time when to post. This is really helpful since many people, especially when using their phone, want to post multiple things yet not wait the required 5 minutes. Plus, if one is catering to a following, it is often best to space the posts out. With the VP system, zapping someone's power by posting multiple times in a few minutes can turn people off. Spacing the posts out can help with this.

@dlike has a lot of potential. I wrote in a post a few weeks back that Pinterest has an estimated value of about $12B. That is a lot of money for a site where people post stuff that is simply of interest to them. There are around 250 million users which is roughly the same size as Reddit.

To me, this is a major market that @dlike is targeting. Being on this blockchain at such an early stage bodes well for it. Simple, quick, and easy is what is appealing about this application. While there are a few things I think need attention on the website, I will say their focus in bringing an Android app to market is well placed.

I suggest everyone give this a try if they have not.
