Could Actifit Essentially Be A Basic Income???

in #actifit6 years ago

My own writings express my pessimism about jobs in the future. I am a true believer in technological unemployment. It is my understanding, the pace of technological change is so great, that the number of people who are basically "useless" to the corporate world is going to grow.

The foundation to this end is being laid right now.

Crypto-economics is remaking out monetary system which will destroy a great deal of the financial industry. While many would say that getting rid of banks is a good thing, one cannot avoid the fact that they do employ a lot of people. Most of these high paying jobs will disappear.

The financial sector really is a glorified middleman. Most entities that operate in this sector simply provide a service of exchange, transfer, or swap. This is already being done, for the most part, by algorithms on computers. The only difference is we are still paying the traditional establishments for this privilege.

After the monetary system we are going to see our physical world altered. Manufacturing and the creation of products is going to be disrupted by 3D printing and robotics. Everything from plastic spoons to housing is going to be spit out of a printer within the next decade. This is going to radically reduce the cost of items. While this is a great thing for consumers, it does destroy jobs.

Finally, we have all the different categories of Artificial Intelligence taking on our mental world. Much of our economy is based upon calculations, planning, and decision-making. These are all aspects of AI that can be handled today. Much of this is based upon raw computational power which is increasing at a faster pace. The algorithms of tomorrow most likely will far surpass what we are dealing with today.

Once again, we see jobs as a casualty.

This concept is garnering a lot of attention. In the past year, I saw the topic of technological unemployment, along with the basic income solution, move from the technology pages to the mainstream media. It is something that is only going to get larger as more start to feel the effects of progress.

Most of you are aware that I was an early supporter of Manna. I was posting about the project even before their converted to their present format (in the Grantcoin days). My reasoning was simple: I do not see a way around this.

Jobs are toast. Work, from a societal perspective, is going to have to change.

Fortunately, crypto-economics is the solutions. I support Manna, which is a basic income token, yet do not believe that is the only solution. In fact, there is no one currency that will answer it all. We are going to see millions of tokens over the next decade. Collectively, I believe they will provide people with the basic necessities they require.

So why do I ask if Actifit can essentially be a basic income?

For those unaware, actifit is a token that is going to be on the STEEM blockchain. It is going to be converted from Ethereum after the SMT protocol is released. This token is tied to an application that was designed for Android (IOS coming soon).

When it was released a few weeks ago, the Actifit application tracked the steps one took in a day. The STEEM blockchain had an application that "Paid People To Walk". This really excited me because this single application proved the STEEM blockchain was more than just a place to get paid for dealing with content. Actifit was designed to reward individuals for the action they were taking i.e. walking.

Earlier this week, the application received an update. This is really interesting because the developers moved away from walking. The sensitivity of the application was increased. At the same time, many different activities related to fitness were added.

The result is that individuals using the Actifit application are rewarded for moving. "Get Paid To Move".

This is where the idea of the Actifit token being a basic income came from.

Everyone moves.

It matters none whether you live in a city in a developed country like Chicago or in Congo. All over the world, people are moving on a daily basis. Here is an application that pays out rewards to people for something that everyone is doing anyway.

To me, that is the epitome of the Age of Abundance that I write about.

In the technical sense, Actifit is not a guaranteed basic income since there is a minimum of 5K "moves" to hit each day to get paid. However, outside the elite couch potatoes, most people do this fairly easily.

The Actifit development is in the early stages. The token is not released along with the website. Their focus was upon getting a working application out before tending to the other things. I am anxious to see their roadmap when they release it.

In the meantime, in addition to downloading the application, give this some thought. Could Actifit end up being a basic income for people all over the world?

Makes sense doesn't it?

Just another example of the creativity on the STEEM blockchain.

Actifit is a bad as UBI - it excludes elderly people who move less but are more vulnerable to job loss (

Be careful, not just couch potatoes don’t reach 5000 moves a day. On a good day I get to 6000 steps max, most days 1800 is the norm. Not all days I can compensate this with other moves like squats. I’d hope a basic income doesn’t discriminate against lesser abled people who already have a hard time finding work and earning their bread, creating an even bigger gap to an otherwise wealthier/healthier society. Manna or other non-discriminating UBI’s is the way to fo as far as basic income goes.

For all the (relatively) healthy or willing to get more workout done people this Actithingy is a nice extra (!) stream of income of course. Enjoy it if you can.

@taskmaster4450 Do you know about the EOS Challenge DAPP from the EOS AirDrop ???

I have seen a couple of Kent's videos and heard him mention it. It is another wonderful idea.

Thanks for linking this.

It will be interesting to see if interoperability among BTS, STEEM, and EOS does come about like some have mentioned. Suddenly all these apps can be multi-chain.

Well... atleast we will be fit and healthy if unemployment should come from technological advances ;-)

what is the bussiness model here, where is the revenue part to the company, i dont understand it, anybody?

This is really fantastic i love this and i no that we are going to take over the world

I have been using @actifit for the second week already. @actifit - a wonderful application. I look forward to the appearance of the first SMT, so as to fully experience the full potential of applications such as @actifit. Good luck to you and love.

Я уже вторую неделю использую @actifit. @actifit – замечательное приложения. С нетерпением жду появления первых SMT, что бы в полной мере ощутить весь потенциал таких приложений, как @actifit. Удачи Вам и любви.

I fully agree with this statement. We are already been replaced by tech however, whether it be software tech or hardware, and it's happening too fast. Gone are the days of good paid jobs with minimal educational background. Even for well paying labor jobs such as AC tech, or electrician, you still have to have quite a bit of experience before you start earning well (someone please correct me if I'm wrong here - that's what an electrician told me) and tech is making all of this devaluation much faster.

Actifit will be one of many apps awarding tokens for positive behaviors. I suggested that in a comment a few days ago.
