Wind, sauna and sin

in #photography6 years ago

It was a pretty relaxing afternoon, with a trip to the in-laws place (they weren't there) for a sauna, some sausage on the grill and the first of the knockout rounds between France and Argentina. Our daughter loves it there and even though the grandparents were away, she is like a different person as she gets to water the flowers and rake the grass. It shows how much care they take of her when she is there and, how much she loves to be outside.

I thought that I while we waited for the sauna to heat, I would take some photos of some flowers and hopefully catch some bees in action. It was really, really windy so I took a flash with me but unfortunately, my batteries weren't charged in either the flash or the triggers. Great. I still managed some shots however I haven't processed them yet and this is where the sin comes in. Phone photos :D

What is the most annoying thing about phone photography is that the phones these days are pretty damn good considering what they are. They are very limited and terrible in low-light but, in full sun they do a pretty good job and are crisp and clean. I am not a fan of taking photos on my phone but sometimes it is a necessary evil, an acceptable sin.

These ones came out pretty good considering the wind (I waited for lulls) and a light filter over the top. Sure, they aren't going to win any awards but, they still give the feeling of the flowers and the width manages to create a nice feel to the images. I think these are going to come out better than the ones I tool with my Olympus, which is sad.

When it comes to photography though, even a small camera can get a good result in the right conditions or more importantly, the right hands. I remember seeing a comparison of shots between amateurs and (I think) National Geographic photographers using very cheap point and click type cameras.

The results were obvious, it isn't just the camera. The shots the pros got, the angles, the atmosphere were still likely good enough to end up in a magazine and most enthusiasts with a full rig would be happy taking such images.

There is a lot of skill in photography and a great deal of art. The amount of images taken these days has somehow destroyed the public perception of the work required but at least for me, when I get the shot I am after, there is a satisfaction in it and if it happens to be a great image too, the feeling grows.

These are just some pretty flowers blowing in the wind. Nothing wrong with that either.

It's not about the camera most of the time, but about the moment and the photographer. Even the grainiest image in low light taken by phone camera can be a masterpiece if it speaks to the viewer. But i totally agree that the public perception is destroyed and it kind of trivialized photography as a form of art. Even though billion dollar websites are majorly powered by visual content. But we will restore the status and put power of their careers back to the content creators.

Even though billion dollar websites are majorly powered by visual content.

And many of them get that content for free, all they provide is a platform. Pretty pathetic really. Middlemen...

Nothing wrong in spending time outside in the garden and a barbecue as well. It does show that your in laws spend quality time with your daughter in the garden if she is trying to do raking. One of these days you will have your own place as obviously she likes it outside.

When she can clean the gutters as well :P
I would like a little (easy to maintain) place by the lake somewhere quiet one day. Steem has to be a touch higher ;)

Sauna, how i love it and mix it with a good football game and i'm heaven. Right now, getting ready for Uruguai-Portugal and my CR7 <3
Great pictures and i agree with you, camera is just a part of a great picture if not everybody with great cameras would be amazing photographers ;)

my CR7 <3

He is the reason I would like Uruguay to win :D

I'm very guilty of the phone photo sin. It's pretty much all I use - when the moment strikes all I've got is my phone, and that moment is one big part of photography. I only use my own photos on my blog, and I'm no great photographer, but me and my phone scrape by alright I think.

I can imagine beautiful, windy summer weather in those purple flowers - looks like a happy moment to have caught.

I'm very guilty of the phone photo sin.

I think it doesn't matter so much for some things and it all depends on the person too. I just like to have photos I have taken and 'taken' for me means more than pint and click.

I only use my own photos on my blog, and I'm no great photographer, but me and my phone scrape by alright I think.

I think using only (mostly) your own photos adds to the personality of a blog, it talks of one's actual life, not just what they can rip from online.

Yep, I really like using only my photos so that i can look back at my blog as though it is diary entries. I don't organize my photos that well without the blog's help :)

Waow these flowers looks simply phenomenon and amazing. You didn't mention the name of this flower. I would have loved to find out more about it and see if i can get and grow them in my garden. Nice shot, keep it up.

I have no idea what they are called.

Truthfully I don't really appreciate photographers and photography as much, with the advent of smartphones. I need to appreciate excellent works a lot more

There is so much work behind some great shots, so much practice and talent needed. People only see the shot itself without considering the training behind. Any one can hit a hole in one with luck, it takes a massive amount of work to consistently get it close to the flag though.

I am not a fan of taking photos on my phone but sometimes it is a necessary evil, an acceptable sin.

Lol, apparently taking pictures when the sun is up a bit is usually very bright, especially when you're using an iphone device.

I can see where photograph and the other mediums are replaced by computer generated images. Even replacing actors as we know Them.

No better way to spend the weekend. Am not a big fan of photography but I appreciate a great job whenever I see it

Spoilt for choice and everyone becomes a critic instead of an appreciator of what is seen. Lovely photos, phone or not and the idea that little missy could have some fun, priceless
