Unpaid sunsets
I haven't posted any sunset pictures lately. In fact, I haven't really spent too much time posting photographs as I have been writing so much. I am trying to interject a few more photos into my feed though, as I do enjoy photography a lot and I think it is nice to mix my content up a little.
I generally like to write a fair bit to go with the photos to add some value as I feel 'lazy' just posting images. But, this is not really the case at all as the background work required for an image plus processing takes a fair amount of effort itself. People often forget what goes into obtaining a skill, they only look at the finished result.
An artist or an athlete usually has to do a mountain of unpaid work in order to have the chance at getting paid professionally. You can't buy skills nor creativity, they must be learned and developed. Perhaps one day it will all be like the Matrix where skill is downloadable, but I think this would destroy much of the beauty of the world.
In my opinion, there is beauty in the struggle, value in the climb to the top of the mountain and strength in being able to push through. Often when people try to do something new, different or outside of their range, they are told to not dream, not attempt it and get a real job.
It is the real jobs people are trying to retire from, not their hobbies. Perhaps one day we will have no need to occupy a job we don't like just for the money, one day we may have the chance to do work that we are happy to continue until the day we die. A job until sunset.
