UNDERMINED

Fields lay quiet and heavy hung the fog
Trampled grass with the echo of scream lingering on air
Lights of a thousand eyes and burning of one heart
Some in rapture, some in despair.

Solid the walls and high they stood
Every entry and exit marked and followed as defined
Still wet the mortar and soft the foundation
An easy target to undermine.

Blind men stand and hold firm the gates
Inching their way along the cracks to find a way inside
Unskilled and strengthened with aid from within
To tear apart and start to preside.

On the wheel rolls with the specter of the past
Returned to wreak havoc on those the future moves
Holding siege and vigil for the living soon lost
With the dead to fill the grooves.

The lost are not all and not all is lost
As the darkness creeps to search for those in prime
Points of light glint off tip of thrusting stake
Landed three seconds at a time.
