The future is uncertain, have that Xbox now
Let's talk a little FOMO. I am sure by now everyone that has anything to do with crypto knows that FOMO stands for Fear of Missing Out and that it is commonly coupled with another term, Hodl. Hold.
FOMO is when one sees an opportunity and wants to jump onto it to ride the waves but due to the want, the mind doesn't think clearly and makes rash decisions. Think, Bitconnect where everything pointed to a Ponzi Scheme but people ignored this because they wanted them dollars. Hodl is used at times when people should hold on to a coin instead of panic sell out of FUD (Fear, uncertainty, doubt) or for coins that have a bright future.
TL:DR:
- FOMO and Hodl in the real world
- We have been hacked to consume now
- Growing class gaps
- Step back and evaluate life
But, everyone knows this in the cryptosphere, right?
How I see it is that these concepts are no different to the real world where essentially every new product is an ICO promising to revolutionise this and that. It doesn't matter what it is, it will change your life, from the latest gadget to the latest toilet cleaner, restaurant to fashion, all make various promises to have an effect on our lives. It is like TV shop and in my opinion most is just as obvious and transparent AF.
Is it obvious though? Well, obviously not because consumerism of disposable nonsense is at an ATH (all-time high), as is the release of said nonsense. The ICOs of products have been designed to grab our attention and trigger our FOMO mechanisms to part us from our hard-earned money that we should probably just Hodl.
And, they have more ways to target us, more ways to draw us in as they actually have products to demonstrate and show and those products make us feel good about ourselves, feel successful and pretty, entertain us and offer avenues for avoidance of all the crap our life contains.
Do people not see the problem? No. They are blinded by the FOMO, they are not thinking rationally, they believe that watching one more movie, bingeing one more series, playing one more game, buying one more headset, phone, laptop or Xbox will be the magical number that tips the scales and makes their life good. How's it working out?
This is the problem with Hodl, to hold is an opportunity cost scenario as it is a decision to save over spend and that is suffering. It is especially painful when everyone else around is enjoying their hard-earned value and 'living life'. What life are they really living though? Perhaps you should look closer and actually listen to what they have to say.
So few are happy, so few are content with their means and what they have, nearly all want more so they can further remove themselves from the curse of 'work' and instead indulge more heavily in an entertained life.
The unexamined life is not worth living - Socrates
Socrates supposedly said this at his trial and was put to death for corrupting youths. He apparently died true to his life purpose.
The unentertained life is not worth living - Society
How mush are you willing to suffer for that? By the looks of consumerism and the rate at which people seem content to divest their value into the valueless, a lot.
But here is the thing, just like those who managed to hold a little BTC, or Ethereum or any other coin that has been driven upward to the stars, there will likely always be some number of people who do think longer than their pleasure centres allow. It will be these few percent that in time are the most likely to be able to far outstrip the means of vast swaths of people as they didn't take the Xbox now and instead were content playing that well worn monopoly set with the family.
These are interesting times but if people did a little more examining and a little less entertaining of the mind, most would find that they have possibilities and actions they can take now to make their lies immediately better but, they will have to manage their FOMO as there is always another advertiser, government, conglomerate and news service trying to grab your attention and train you to release just a little more of your value. Sounds like a conspiracy to keep the majority under control doesn't it?
Can you Hodl?

Also don't put all eggs in a basket. FOMO is real, especially hearing people buy this and that; we might be drawn to that illusion of having things that might not be necessary for us.
Well okay, the market has been red lately but it's better to hodl right? especially for those who wanted middle to long term investment. I believe it's going to be worth it in the end. Certainly it takes patience but I guess waiting a little longer won't hurt.
Thanks for the food for thought!
yeah, it is a red market, good time to buy though.... oh look at that sale on blah da blah must haves for the spring!!
ha ha ! for cryptocurrency investors / trader (s) that also translate as buy more and let it still till the market recover!
Definitely Great thoughts!

@tarazkp
I read all but i am not getting any thing from this .
May you write in most complicated way . or i am not able to get this .
I think your writing is now like that complicated writers . without translation no one can understand
I write as I write. If people read, that is up to them.
nothing wrong with your writing. You use a lot of analogies and metaphors/ figures of speech, this might be confusing to a non native english speaker, but nothing to do with your writing capabilities haha.
Omgosh! I didn’t understand anything what he/she actually said 🙈🙈🙈 Thats what is going on for quite some time. Quality content creators simply vanish, being replaced by those kind of people. Anyways I am HODL a bit longer unless @mammasitta my second part starts to power down. Should she? 😂 lol
I think bitcoin revolutionised FOMO. It kinda sucks seeing these teenage bitcoin millionaires and how little they invested to get where they are. I think we all want a slice of the cake now, but the reality of the matter, and how investment works is that not everyone can have a large slice of the cake. Just gotta outsmart our opponents to get there.
If only we could see the future. If I would for one superpower, that would be it.
I agree - people should hodl and be thoughtful enough to invest and see the bigger picture. But, what you are presenting here are extremes, I believe - the one who seeks only momentary pleasure and entertainment and the smart one who always saves for the future and thinks ahead...
I think the ideal is somewhere in the middle - you need to be able to see further than a moment of pleasure, but you also have to be able to enjoy your life now.
Because you can only look forward to the future for so long..
I get FOMO with vinyl. The thing about vinyl is that you never know when something is going to be a viral hit - will it sell out before payday, what if it never has a repress, what if the value goes up 10x on Discogs.
I can resist FOMO on crypto because I can’t be bothered faffing about with exchanges. So I just amass Steem and Musicoin currencies as part of my general day to day life.
Not wanting to succumb to hurdles stopped me jumping in on some currencies as they were surging last year. That, plus having lots of real world things to immediately afford.
I'm very clearly a saver and not a spender myself, too. But without the spenders it is impossible for businesses to grow for a lack of customers. The economy is a cycle. Everything starts with demand albeit artificially created demand to an ever larger degree these days. While I save and Hodl I will remember all those spenders sacrificing their future well-being and stability so that I do not have to.
