Speeding on back
Where has 2018 gone? It really does seem that this year has both sped by in a blink and dragged on for a lifetime. Steem time should have its own clock as well since it doesn't seem to be represented by the usual 24 hour system. Perhaps one Steem day is actually 72 hours because of 3 second block times?
The way we experience time depends on our age which is why the older we get, the faster it goes. I am almost 40 so 1 year is only 2.5% of my life. For my three year old daughter though, that same year is 50% of hers. Time is relative to experience and a year gets shorter the longer experience gets.
Perhaps this also has an effect on how patient we might be for something like the markets to turn or for Steem to become mainstream. While a younger person looks at a long term investment being a few months, an older person looks into the years. I think if when I was younger I looked at years instead of months, I would be in a much better financial position today.
There should definitely be more time spent while young to understand how to spend time. With all the time spent in schools, you'd think there would be a lot more learnt that benefited everyday life for now and in the future. Would the wealth distribution be different if everyone had a decent understanding of personal economy and possibility? Probably.
While 2018 has been a year of foundation development, 2019 is set to be one of growth activity and leveraging what has been built to compound opportunities. The new job offers a layer of security for the time being as well as potential pathways forward in the future, my business adds additional income and Steem Power is a long-term investment that can be actively used to grow and support itself. The three together combine to provide stability of some sort and high level opportunities, albeit through a high workload.
Three layers of risk allocation and management that will hopefully see my family through the short, mid and long-term experiences. If my wife graduates and is able to find a decent job, that provides a further spread of risk and another fall back position.
For most of my life I haven't spent time understanding time spent and it shows in my position. Being on Steem has helped me greatly increase my willingness to work, look more broadly and further into the future. Combined with personal experience over the last years, this has been an invaluable lesson in discovering some of what I am capable of and my willingness to delay gratification for an improved result.
2019 is going to be an interesting year where I feel many paths will converge and align to support each other. And while I don't expect it to be the big bang event year that changes everything, it is an important link in the chain reaction that catalyzes it.
While more of the same level of work is required, the closer to the future it takes us, the more important it becomes. Time is just a concept that tracks experience and a day, a week, a year is meaningless without context of what happens, what we do and how we choose to feel about it.

...do you mean the opposite? ( I think you do?).
Time goes faster and faster...
When I was a kid, a week was an age Summer holidays were forever.... now a week is nothing...it's definitely going faster...
I think 2019 might be more turbulent than you do...'bubbles' take time to expand, but contract very quickly..
I see no evidence to suggest that we are not in the contraction phase...
Which I see as excellent for crypto...
(I bloody well hope so, anyway! )
It definitely could be a popping year and that will change things again for me as it affects all 3 positions. Hopefully the crypto side is affected very positively to make up for the other two :D
Yeah... will edit. Changed order, missed it. Oops.
I think it's also a question of new experiences, in that doing something unchallenging and familiar = no time passes, whereas doing something unfamiliar = subjectively time is created to accommodate the new experience.
I didn't express that well, but it is easy to see in personal experience. Spend a day doing the same old same old and it whips through like nothing. Spend the day doing something totally demanding and at the end of the day it feels like a full day has passed for a change.
I think this is another part of it too. It is like when have strong routines it is hard to remember if you did it today, or yesterday.
I have the same feeling that 2018 was a foundation building year and that 2019 will be a blast!
If we don't write each other till next year I wish you a Happy New Year with all the best that you wished for!

2019 is going to be really interesting as it is a bit of a mixed bag with somany things going on that could build or break. hard to predict.
Happy New Year to you too :)
I think your diversified approach will be great in the short and medium term. You will easily become an influential Orca in the ecosystem which will have its advantages over time as we improve the customer experience going forward!

Even if never an orca, when Steem is 10-20 or 30, anyone with a few thousand will be influential and be instrumental in supporting new recruits. It is going to be fun =)
