Moving from one to another fast
Time to move with a long day ahead with several different clients. I don't have a desk job, nor a manual labor job. I stand in a room and speak with people. There is rarely a set topic, rarely a plan for discussion, it is all on the fly.
For some, they hate this approach to things, but for me it is a good fit for how I work, create and more importantly, think. It isn't easy to start with for some of my clients as they are generally the well-planned engineer type who have carefully thought through the scenario and crunched the numbers. I don't help them in these areas, it is not my strength.
Where I expand their skill set is in their adaptability to the changing environment, the speed at which they can absorb and react to the common everyday issues they face in their work. The hundred little fires that start and have to be dealt with before they can do their 'real' work.
They often plan their day, week and year to optimize their time but nearly all fail to consider what is un-considerable. The unknowns that do not present in their analysis. What they can't see, does not exist. I find this interesting since day after day, what they didn't see, gets seen but the next plan comes with no space to deal with the unseen again.
But, for now, it keeps me working in something I enjoy a lot.
The photo is from Tokyo. I love the structure and orderly design of the Japanese but, they seem to always understand that nothing is complete, there is no perfect plan, there must be space to move and grow.
