Mary, Mary, quite contrary

in #steem7 years ago

I heard an interesting statement the other day where someone working in Pharma called pollen "gold dust", because as allergy season hits, sales of allergy medications sky rocket. For every affliction, there is the possibility to earn from it. What is interesting is that people will pay more to reduce suffering than to prevent it from happening and this is probably because the pain can be felt directly, but the avoidance of pain will never be felt.

Gold dust pollen. It is interesting that bees collect it for their benefit but in doing so, strengthen the flower by propagating through dissemination. It is not unlike a decentralization process where there is mutual benefit for blockchain and user where the more a user spreads, the stronger the blockchain becomes. And, the more plentiful and wide the flowers grow, the more bees are able to be supported.

I like to visualize concepts and create examples that I can understand in many ways, Steem is much like a garden filled with a range of life that competes for resources like water and nutrients. some work together like the bees and the flowers for mutual benefit, some try to squeeze others out of the competition, like the weeds amongst the flowers.

What I find a little interesting is that if you do not tend to a garden, it will be over run with weeds but, weeds will never be overrun by garden. The reason is that the garden itself is an engineered environment that is forced and the only way to maintain it, is to create an unnatural balance. A forest on the other hand lives by the rules of untended nature and finds a balance in growth and destruction. Some will see a garden overrun with weeds, another a natural paradise of harmony and nature restoring balance.

I think the attraction many may have to a well-tended garden is the effort it takes to firstly create it, and then the energy it takes to continually maintain it. It is a harnessing of nature with the understanding that the only way to keep it reigned, is to continuously put energy into it, but as soon as one stops the process, nature will immediately start its plans for domination. Who has harnessed who when one is forced to continually apply energy to hold back something that acts effortlessly and eternally?

Nature will always beet the gardener because nature is timeless and patient, the gardener has an expiration date.

I think that Steem is the timeless garden though, because even though projects and application will come and go, users will come and go, scams will come and go... Steem can go on. If we think about the currency as the pollen, once created it doesn't disappear as it will always be somewhere on the blockchain recorded, even if locked away forever behind a lost key. While in use it can create honey, creating that honey doesn't destroy it, it just reallocates it to the next user in a payout or as a payment so to be used again and again.

There are currently 300+ million lumps of Steem gold nuggets out there and then, 300,000,000,000+ pieces of Steem dust once we break it into its smallest parts. All of it is available, even the Steem dust in storage in Steem Power wallets, it just may not be available today. But under the right conditions, it can be released. The higher the price, the more that is sold, the more that is sold, the more that is bought.

The price might not be high, but it might fall into the hands of gardeners who know how to plant those seeds to cultivate a garden where the flowers grow to attract bees, butterflies and other gardeners to plant and grow their own gardens next door. Some will fail, some will move away, some will pass away but, they will be replaced by someone else who might have different ideas for the garden and perhaps different plants to attract different insects, different bees, birds, animals.

At the end of the day though, every garden will finally fail through disuse, misuse and neglect, but if that garden is built on a framework of organic growth, nature will take over and continually absorb what failed and use the energy to create new opportunities.

There are always opportunities, and people pay more to have their problems solved, than avoid the problems from happening. We are generally reactive in this way but the ones who take the benefit are proactive - they are where the ball is going to be - they own the land where the gardeners are looking to grow. Owning steem is your own little lot of land to grow on, sell or rent out. It is generative, it is transformative.

How does your garden grow?

The other option is to see the gardener as the ultimate actor in futility. No matter what they do to try and influence or propagate the growth of what they desire, they at times need to become an explorer to go and try and find the thing that they want.

That makes for an interesting thought. I've never, ever seen an Apple Tree in an environment that wasn't manicured. When was the last time that we saw "wild" fruit, or vegetables, having grown on their on?

That's the sort of distance I tend to find between those nuggets of data on this blockchian that deserve the nutrition of healthy upvotes; and those tending to a manufactured, manicured orchard.

Perhaps I'm rambling - but I hope my point makes sense!

When was the last time that we saw "wild" fruit, or vegetables, having grown on their on?

For me it is common enough at this time of year as it is Finland - outside my door I can pick blueberries and raspberries. But in most places, this is not the case.

The gardener doesn't necessarily act in futility while tending, but the inevitability of the result is certain.

Doing as much gardening as possible and never knew it could be so much fun. No green fingers here, but looking forward to the years to come as it could be a tropical one that grows rapidly.

It is a lot of fun for sure. :)

Isn't one of the conspiracy theories with the health industry that they deliberately only treat symptoms because when people are constantly sick you have repeat customers but if you can't make money off healthy people? XD

How does what garden grow? My steem one? I'm not sure, I don't actually know how to judge these things, I just know the upgoat is occasionally insane (it is a goat after all XD). Our actual garden just does its own thing. The fruit trees and grape vine that we planted when we moved in are doing brilliantly. We were doing seasonal vegetable planting (which stopped when we thought we were going to move but will start up again with the chickens and all once we've cleaned up some) and pretty much everything else that's there is there because it survived and everything that was there that needed maintaining died (poor things :S).

I just know the upgoat is occasionally insane (it is a goat after all XD).

lol, this made me laugh.

I always feel bad when a plant dies and I have kept plants alive that I don't want because I don't want it to die. I had one that I maintained for years - my wife killed it.

I think there is some truth to the conspiracy of big pharma. but not a whole truth.

@tarazkp, Great Comparison of Pollen and Steem. Nothing is permanent and everything is continuation.

Have a blessed time ahead.

Thanks mate.

Planting the seeds today to enjoy the fruits of tomorrow! Need to adapt to changes to ensure that the conditions remain good for growth! Great analogy!

the adaption is the important part as different plants might need to be grown under changing conditions.

What would happen if some community with a token here gets eventually abandoned by the founder? Will the token continue to live on as long as there are people who want to use it?

Will the token continue to live on as long as there are people who want to use it?

I believe so. Satoshi hasn't been too active :)

Big pharma can suck my boomer!

Got an allergy to pollen? - go buy a local honey and spoon it down.

Stake, hmm. Well it's not really gone to plan this year so far, but I hope for changes soon.

Hasn't helped me with the honey trick, I tried.

I am closing in on 50... still 2+k away but, it is in sight.

Maybe you need to inhale the honey? I've heard from multiple people it has helped, but there are lots of pollen types i guess?

50k will be a huge celebration, buddy, friend, pal :)

these days 50k isn't enough for friends, it is 100k and up
