Dog walk diaries: Identifying by default

in #philosophy8 years ago

Yesterday, while having a coffee with a friend, we were talking about the future of the world, as he and I so often do. Due to his professional background, a lot of it is concerning economics and financial positions.

We were talking mostly about how people have different approaches to dealing with money and wealth and how many consistently take an approach that isn't conducive to creation or improvement but rather, subsistence and short-term satisfaction. Even those who should know better suffer instant gratification habits heavily.

My friend said, "People are people."

It is a phrase we hear a lot on Steem generally around the issue of bad actors in the Steem environment but, it pervades humanity at all levels and in all things as human nature generally works on default settings. What was learned either tacitly or explicitly becomes our personal standards, and our actions.

We identify with these things and because we have held them for so long believe they are us and, they can't change. They can, it just isn't easy which means, most people will never really attempt it and will often throw in the towel early.

When it comes to economies and wealth gaps, whether systemic or not, of the world was to be reset to a zero point, how long until we are back at a similar point as now? People are people and people act largely on default so, unless they change how they behave, the same problems will eventually present themselves again.

If such a scenario were to happen, how many would see it as an opportunity to create a better future for themselves and how many would apply the same thinking and action they have now?

In my opinion, Steem being like a microcosm of the real world makes it quite representative of how people will act in such a scenario. It is early days here yet, instead of relearning and working out better ways to progress, most come in carrying the default habits of the 'real world' and apply them to Steem. To me, this is an opportunity at a soft reset that many are missing.

People are looking for Steem to solve their immediate issues but, without thought about what will come, they are selling their future position and chance at increasing their wealth. People look at tbe income gap, not the wealth gap normally as income is short term and wealth is built over time. Generally, those who are wealthy often have higher income but, the income often comes after the attitude of wealth creation.

Wealth isn't a byproduct of high income, high income is a byproduct of a wealth creation mindset, delayed gratification. With people being people working on default, most are going to do what they have always done and get what they have always got.

Although there are many complexities at play here, at the end of the day, if we are unwilling to change ourselves, expecting the world to change to favour us is a losing thought process. Poverty and wealth may be institutionalized because, we choose to subscribe to the defaults we have learned and believe they are who we are. Our identity.

I also look at steem as a microcosm of the real World and quite frankly, am not surprised that we've started having the same problems people complained about there

Humans are really too complex to fully grasp. Greed, lust and instant satisfaction are just some of the issues but not even the Zenith

No matter how much people like you try, there will always be those who will seek ways to bypass the system even at the expense of damaging it for everyone

Most will fall short of their lofty and cruel desires. My goal isn't aiming for the peak of a mountain, it is to build a hill over time. There will be early bypassing and get rich quick success but in the long-term, it is always the holders who get the best result. It is called old money for a reason and the smart new money will create future old money.

There are tomes when try to find a fault with the system when in the end we all realize that it takes two to tango. The supposed 'system' was built by us and reflects back to us what is being thrown at it. The same is probably true for Steem as well.

I guess if we look at it like that, then the systems have to be strong enough to survive humanities onslaught or it perishes and a new one takes it place.

This goes through all things we have done. At Steemit, we create and support either a healthy system or not. People are people and they usually choose the short approach and then complain they don't have as much as those who went long.

I am new in Steemit and cant really say that it changed the life of many people. But heard about many nice experiences like the make up girls who earned 30.000$. But I see this as impossible these days. I mean even to earn 100 dollars can be challenging.

Do you know where she is now? Gone.

I mean even to earn 100 dollars can be challenging.

Yes it can be and it takes a lot of time and work to get anywhere but, depending on where you live, the 100 is nothing or everything in the future.

It is sad that she is gone, but some people are just looking for a shortcut. Of course a 100$ can make a difference, but we have many inactive users too.

she was a nonsense account and never deserved 30k for that video.

And finally she left and took everything with her :(

La mejor manera de trabajar en steem es haciendo loque nos gusta y por añadidura deberían venir nuestros ingresos. Si el sistema se mantiene sano así debería ser. Hay que relajarse y producir lo mejor de nosotros.

Hi Taraz. Why do people spend everything they have and don't accumulate. Wealth is hard to gather but easy to lose. I have never had all the luxuries and think similarly to you, that it takes time to build. If you have 100 000 Steem today why touch it because the chance is and it is a fairly good chance it will be 50 times more in value in the years to come.
basically what i am saying is you can have a good few months of a lavish lifestyle now or a comfortable life in a few years time. It is not all about today but there is a tomorrow. To improve ones financial status there has to be some sort of sacrifice along the way.

Why people resort to their most basic instincts of instant gratification I'll never understand. It happened personally within my family that caused a financial mess. I've vowed not to live that way and hopefully I'll keep to it
