Demolitions and exposed beams
The fireplace is the end of the night, while during the day, a friend (the neighbor) and I got into the first steps of demolition. The contractors that were here the other week didn't give us much information or commitment on a couple things with the excuse that they would have to see the wall structure to know what was load-bearing - so we exposed it in most of the places we are looking to move walls.
It was a fair bit of fun and I am glad my friend was there, as he is really tall and got the high panels. We also found some old newspapers from the fifties, which I will do a post on tomorrow when I have had a chance to look through and take some nice pictures in the light. They aren't in great condition, but they are dry as they have been used as insulation around the heating pipes.
The other thing we managed in a way that would have been suitable for a "There, fixed it" post, was put the washing machine into its temporary home upstairs. The door was millimeters too narrow and the settings know wouldn't make it through, so we just cut the door frame out. This area upstairs will all be redone and have a bathroom with a shower added to it, as at the moment, there is just a small toilet. We are going to have to move a wall to create the space, which was the reason for today's exercise.
We didn't really take that much off, but the pile of wood and crap was surprisingly large. We don't have a skip on site as they are crazy expensive to rent for a long time, so we will make a pile and get one in every now and again to take away the rubbish. It was nice to be able to throw it out of the window into place, rather than walk it outside. Getting things in is going to be a challenge though, especially the large sheeting for the walls.
It does feel like I did quite a lot today and I hope my body is going to harden the f**k up a bit as we move further into the renovation, otherwise I am going to be in trouble. The local male neighbors have a Covid-19 exercise group - I should probably join.
Now, it is back to the fireplace with some frozen pizza (we didn't plan ahead for dinner very well tonight) and perhaps watching something on the couch with my wife.
