DARKLY DREAMING

You caught me sleeping in the shadows
with one eye cracked
I saw you creep on by
behind my back
Lightly stepping over each lump
upon gnarled toes
looking to get the jump
under my nose.

Jagged edged shadows cast on walls
covers over head to protect
care you little
you have no respect.
The darkness swallows all that goes
plunged into the abyss
with no light to escape
to sleep on in bliss.

Fleeting the thought in broken head
Fallen through cracks of time
You steel each then claim
Yours? They are mine.
Matter it little for all moves on
to find giants that roam
and stand upon their shoulders
to build a new home.
