In Australia, staff Christmas parties can be quite dull affairs, but in Finland they ...
... are far less conservative. The unwritten law is, what happens at the Christmas party is wiped clean come Monday morning - and Finns like to drink as a way to excuse their release of emotions - and with free drinks in the table... So, the Christmas party is the place to get drunk and tell your boss what you really think of them. My boss told me she would save me a place next to her - perfect!
As some of you might know and those at Steemfest in Poland likely don't believe is, I am not much of a drinker. However, when I do drink, I don't change much, other than get happier and likely a bit louder. Some however change completely and I always find it interesting to see how that asshole in the office or the shy girl that barely says a word, behave after a few out of context drinks. Some backflip.
I like seeing people out of context as it changes the understanding of them. Often in work context it is for the better, as people might be more formal at work and then once out, they become human again, more relaxed, natural.
Hierarchy also tends to fall away socially and in Finland, there isn't much corporate hierarchy in most companies anyway. Generally, people are pretty evenly positioned, despite variations in job roles. I prefer it this way as it fits my personality better.
Tonight it is a costume party and we have a team theme, which is "coaches". Pretty boring. I am dressed as a boxing coach of sorts... One of my colleagues from another team is going as Tonya Harding.
Well, I think it is unlikely I will post again tonight as you know the rules, don't drink and blockchain.
A rule I have generally failed to follow...
The first rule of coaching:
Do as I say, not as I do.
Get dronkchaining! :0D
I was very tempted but too tired
Aw :0p
For some reason my office is having its end of year dinner on a Thursday night. I'm not going.
That's all.

November...Thursday... I hope you had a serious word about this tomfoolery!
To be honest this level of nutbag-style shenanigans is a little below my paygrade and so I'm voicing my thoughts silently - By failing to attend...Or should I say succeeding in staying away?! 🤣
That is common here because people count Friday night as the weekend. Also, people wanted a work day to recover.
GOLD!
🤣
Nokia used to have a Thursday party with 30,000 people. Most would start drinking at lunch and the next day at work was a write off. Pretty expensive event.
They paid for half of those drinks with all the Nokia phones I bought! 😃
Most of the world's buildings could be made from them. They'd survive anything.

Xmas party on the 22nd November, mental!
Come on then coach, let's see ya :)
We need an excuse to drink, Christmas alone isn't good enough.
No excuses, just drink!
We do that, too, little Christmas is just a good time to do that socially acceptably.
They have been running for a few weeks already. The city has limited venues but quite a few medium to large companies so getting a location can be difficult and expensive.
I don't think there are any pictures of me :D
Awe! Ye Old Company Christmas Parties, I remember them well! Some bad but mostly good, Lol!!
These are mostly good for me, but I can't say that everyone is going to wake up happy today :)
Wow! Your country gets an early start in Christmas parties compared to mine, but hopefully that means a longer Holiday Season with people being happy and full of good cheer. So I think it’s great!
👏 🎅🏻
They do start early, but I don't think it makes people cheerier, thus is Finland. :D
It is nice to mix with many different people though and the CEO stayed all night too.
