KUIH KAPIT / LOVE LETTERS
Semprong, Kue Semprong, Sapit, Sepit, Kue Belanda, or Kapit, is a traditional wafer snack. Kuih Kapit is very popular among the Chinese community in Malaysia. If anyone go to any Chinese house during Chinese New Year, 90% will be served with Kuih Kapit beside the other modern cookies, biscuits and cakes. It is commonly found in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.
I stumble into this small shop along Jalan Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur (back lane) while doing my street photography one morning. I'm lucky Madam Choo Siew Lan happily allowed me to take her photo together with her helpers preparing the making of the Kuih Kapit.
According to her, she learn from her mother since small. When her mother passed away she took over and open the Kuih Kapit business. She's been doing this for more than 30yrs. She said this is the only thing she can help her friend and relatives to find money to celebrate Chinese New Year.
I have tasted the Kuih Kapit - it's crunchy and nice. For those interested to meet her or purchased the Kuih Kapit, the shop is located at 25, Jalan Dang Wangi, 5-300 Kuala Lumpur.

The Kuih Kapit is made by clasping egg batter using an iron mold which is heated up on a charcoal stove.
