Having fun with toiletpaper rolls. (Educational and fun)
Yes, you read correctly.
We all have them in our houses, and most of us just chuck them in the dustbin. But honestly, ask a teacher, especially a pre-k to grade 3 (year 3) teacher, and they can give you tons of ways in which you can reuse them. Today's post will be focussing on educational ways in which to reuse toiletpaper rolls as well as different art ideas.
Mathematics with toiletpaper rolls.
- Ordering numbers from big to small/small to big.
- Reading numbers
- Making a number roll.
- Sorting according to numbers
- Practicing your numberbonds
- Introducing time: Make a watch
- Make an addition game
Language
- Create word rolls
- Create holders for your sightwords
- Create wordfamilie roll tubes
- Teach children the correct order of the alphabet by making this alphabet monster
- Learn your lower case and upper case letters.
Art
Here are so many ideas, so I decided to post a few examples and then a few links where you can get more ideas.

Have fun with this, but sometimes just let the kids be and let them create and build what they want.
Let them fail and try again. Through this they can learn valuable life lessons, in the safety of your class or home.

Those realizations are really great! It is a long time we have not organized a toilet-paper roll workshop at home, but kids were always having fun with it ^^
Thank you.
Good luck @tanyaaschutte 👍👍
Wow and people are throwing them away (I used to play with my dog with them) but these ideas are endless. Wish I was aware of this when my children were young (not so clever to think out all this fun) Excellent post @tanyaschutte
We tend to forget to reuse stuff lying around. My son uses them as goggles or wherever his imagination takes him.
Thank you
Wauw! This is so awesome and inspirational 😀. I'm wondering what kind of games we could create for kids a little older to teach about computational thinking and programming? Maybe a translator for the ceasar cypher?
Thank you
What a wonderful and creative post! I bet the children love your learning activities. I would have fun too. You are very clever and talented! I hope you are doing well.....how is your newest little one? It must be nice to come home to your family! Have a wonderful week ahead!!! :D
