Wat Kongkaram Don Wai, a beautiful temple along Tha Chin River, Thailand
As mentioned in my previous post, Wat Don Wai Water Market, which is an interesting ancient market, is located in the area of an ancient temple, named “Wat Kongkaram Don Wai”.
This temple, in fact, was originally named "Wat Khok Wai" because the temple was built on a high slope area with many rattan trees. (Khok means high slope) The word "Khok" was later changed to "Don" which has the same meaning, high slop.
The word “Kongka” means river.
The name of this temple, therefore, came from the fact that the temple is situated on the banks of river, named the Tha Chin River.
The temple is well-known among local people as “Wat Don Wai”.
Viharn of Wat Don Wai has magnificent architecture with standing Buddha statues on the front door as well as the back door.
There are Thamajak in front of each Buddha statues.
The small wooden red doors of the Viharn have magnificent designs.
The roof of the Viharn is decorated with many small marvelous Nagas.
The sculpture of giant black buffalo, named "Ai Khuan", is standing in front of the Viharn.
It is a symbol for people to make merit to redeem the lives of cattle and buffaloes.
The golden pagoda of Wat Don Wai is outstanding. It is another highlight of the temple.
The Viharn is even more fascinating if you stand in the garden and take photos of the beautiful flowers and plants with the Viharn in the background.
And a lot of white clouds in the sky make the photos look more attractive, especially for me who is a clouds lover.
Very nice post and impressive photos. Thank you very much for the opportunity to travel with you. The natural landscape of your region is magnificent. I wish you success.
Thanks so much! I'm glad that you like my post and photos. ;)
