شعراز خیام

خاکی که به زیر پای هر نادانی است
کفّ صنمیّ و چهرهٔ جانانی است

هر خشت که بر کنگرهٔ ایوانی است
انگشت وزیر یا سر سلطانی است

poem by khayyam:

the dust which is beneath the feet of every ignorant
is the dust of the beloved and the face of the sweetheart.

every brick which is in the battlement of the deck
is the finger of a vizier or the head of a sultan.
