How to motivate yourself and others

in #life3 years ago

Motivation means "motivation to take action."

The action should evoke positive emotions (or reduce negative ones). If the action is long-term, then each step towards the goal should evoke positive emotions. Concentration will not work. Accordingly, the result will also be minimal.

Think of yourself in a boring lecture. The new brain understands that this is necessary, it can rationally justify why it is necessary to be here and listen to a lecture. But how much willpower is enough if the lecture is not interesting, if there are no emotions?

In cases where you set serious goals, you need to clearly understand your own benefits. What will you personally get if you do this.

There are tons of examples when women decide to lose weight for their husbands. This option does not work and it is clear why. To lose weight, you need to change your lifestyle, this is a serious task that requires the direct involvement of the Ancient Brain. This can only be done for yourself. Not for anyone else.

You need to understand in advance what you are willing to pay for achieving the goal. This is prioritization. Anything below your goal can be paid, donated. The more clearly a person understands this, the more actively he is ready to act.

Plus, prioritizing and determining what you're willing to pay is great for finding the resources to reach your goal. Because what you are willing to pay is your resources. You can use them, attach them. And the more important the goal, the more resources you have.

You need to clearly understand what is bad for you now, without achieving the goal, and how good it will be for you later, when you reach the goal.

To understand and clearly distinguish between what is bad here and good there. The more often you say it, imagine and feel it, the more powerful your motivation becomes.

The achievement of the goal should be perceived as real. We explain this to the new brain rationally, with facts and figures. We show this to the middle brain through examples, comparisons and images.

We instill this in the ancient brain by constantly speaking (if it is really necessary, if the goal is really difficult).
Let's not forget what is real - not what is really happening. The reality is what your brain believes in.

There is no point in taking action if you have no options at all for what you can do. Therefore, motivation involves options, an action plan. When we motivate ourselves, we remember this.

But we usually forget when we motivate others. We believe that our business is to ignite, and then the person himself will understand what needs to be done. This is not true.

The person must have some options for action. Specific actions that you can start right now. Therefore, if we motivate another person, we must offer him some kind of plan. He can change it, but he must have an option. Otherwise, most likely, there will be no action.
