In Japan, the Ume(梅) or Plum blossoms is associated with the start of the spring season as it is one of the first flowers to bloom- Plum blossom starts blooming from mid February until March.

日本では、梅の花の開花は、春の訪れを表しており、
2月中旬から3月にかけて梅の花が咲き始めます。
Ume in Flower Language is ｢Keep the Promise｣ or ｢Beauty and Longevity｣. Ume is also popular eventually surpassing the Sakura or Cherry tree.(^^♪
梅の花言葉は、「約束を守る」、「美と長寿」です。
梅は桜の木と同じくらい有名な木です(^^♪
Famous for its historical temples and Shrine, Kamakura is also popular as Plum flower spot. These are the photos I took during my visit in Kamakura last week.
歴史的な寺院や神社で有名な鎌倉は、梅の花のスポットとしても人気があります。 先週の鎌倉訪問時に撮った写真です。
Other famous Plum flower spot is the Okurayama Plum Park (大倉山梅林, okurayama bairin). It is a small park but very popular plum flower spot in Kanagawa prefecture. It has about 30 kinds 200 Ume tree. I went there yesterday and I enjoyed the beautiful plum colors of red, pink and white with sweet smell.
その他の有名な梅の花のスポットは、大倉山梅林公園です。 小さな公園ですが、神奈川県では非常に人気のある梅の花のスポットです。 200種類ほどの梅の木が約30種類あります。 私は昨日そこに行って、甘い香りの赤、ピンク、白の美しい梅の色を楽しみました。
Japanese people celebrates the blooming of Ume through festivals, so if you want to enjoy Japanese plum blossoms with traditional dance and music, I highly recommend to visit Kamakura and Okurayama Plum Park!

I went Kamakura once to see the big budha. We drove from Kawasaki (Saginuma, if you've heard of it) and it was interesting though we hardly stopped long. (I seem to recall we got a little lost on the way and therefore the driver wanted to get back not long after getting us there).
I used to love hanami - all the drinking under the cherry blossom. So long as it wasn't a washout through the rain. Ueno in Tokyo was fun, as was Saginuma / Tama Plaza itself. And Yoyogi koen in Harajuku always looked amazing.
Thanks for the pics. I hope you have a great viewing season / a fair few drinking sessions under the stuff (if that's your thing).
