Introductory Post: IMAGINARY Mark vs REALITY Me

Hello Steemit! This is my first post, "introducing myself". P.S. Please bear with my drawings and some basic photoshops. ^_^

If someone would ask me to introduce myself, I would probably just answer, “I’m Mark.” I don’t say much about myself not because I dislike conversations, I’m actually a chatterbox (you might not want to talk with me if you are in a hurry). I don’t reveal much of myself not because I’m a mysterious type of guy (I have public accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), but because I want people to know me as I do not as I say. But since we are in this website and there’s no way for you to see what I exactly do, at least I can share, if you favor me the moment, a little about me.

I did compare myself to some famous characters for a low-key like me need them as vantage points.

If Jimmy Neutron gets older, he’d be a lot like me. I may look younger than my age, as most people say, but I’m already 30. Like Jimmy, I treat every problem as an opportunity for a new discovery, not of new gadgets to solve problems though, but of ways to face every challenge that life constantly throws. And taking it literally, I’m like a “Neutron” that can neutralize my emotions especially when situations get too “negative” or even too “positive” to be true.

I’m like Moana, the male version, of course. While she’s the only daughter of her parents, I’m the only son of mine. Moana lives in one of the islands of Polynesia called Motunui, I live in one of the 7,107 islands of the Philippines called Mindanao. My heart always longs for something new, something greater, something beyond my comfort zone. Even when people tell me that something is impossible or difficult, I would always try and take risk. I won’t mind if I fail at least I experienced what it’s like to be beyond my control, to be beyond myself.

I’m actually quite hesitant to compare myself with this great man, but I think I have an Albert Einstein in me and I hope you don’t mind. I share most of his qualities except for one thing, his IQ level (I didn’t mind taking IQ tests because I might be disappointed). Science and mathematics fascinate me and I want them to be shared and appreciated. This is why I entered the teaching profession and I don’t just teach my students what I know but I also instigate them to learn and discover things on their own beyond the four corners of my classroom. Like Einstein, I am a freethinker. I hear others’ opinions but I don’t always listen to them. I always research and revalidate every information, don’t mistaken this as paranoia, but I believe that access to facts and living with the truth, not with opinions and social constructs, what make me a free being. I’m also fond of politics, music, and I am a believer of God.

This is too ambitious, but I am today’s William Shakespeare. I don’t mean by my writings (my write-ups are nothing compared to his) but on how he expresses himself. Shakespeare uses language to create plays, sonnets, and poems to express himself and make his own art while I use lines, shapes, and colors to make my sketches. He’s a legendary poet, playwright, and actor while I’m a visual artist enthusiast.

I’m a human version of The Hobbit’s Smaug, if there’s one. Smaug is described as greedy and strong. I am greedy not of silver or gold, but of family and friends. As Smaug never left the Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor for fear that someone might steal his silver and gold, I always stand by my family and friends. But unlike Smaug, I’m not possessive and overprotective, I love to see people I love grow and unfold their potentials on their own and share best moments with everyone. And when someone try to hurt the people that I love, I’ll be like a wild beast fighting for them with all of my might.

I’m an avid fan of Marvel Comics and I can see most of myself with the X-Men’s Wolverine. I may be strong and fearless, sometimes beastly, on the outside but I have my softest weakest spots. I don’t cower in times of challenges and, in fact, I already faced and conquered a number of great trials in life. I may need medicine to heal physical wounds unlike Wolverine, but I have the ability to heal emotional wounds faster than the people I know. Fear and failure don’t stop me, it may frustrate and disappoint me for a while, it may weaken and tear my confidence for a while, but I can always find myself ways to recuperate and get myself back together.

My most favorite character in me is Dora the Explorer. Isn’t she so cool? She can go to places despite any roadblock that may come in her way. Just like Dora, I want to wander the world. Traveling renews my spirit and widens my perspectives and horizon. As Dora travels with Boots, map, and her backpack, I travel the world with my heart (of course, also with my backpack and google map).

So, this is me but just for now because I know that there’s so much more to life. There’s so much moreto learn, discover, and conquer inside and outside of me and I believe that I have the biggest room for improvement!
