What is a Mood Journal?
What is a food journal? A food journal is basically just an outline or a journal of your thoughts, feelings and emotions. When you start writing down your thoughts, you sort of "write in your own handwriting" so to speak. It might sound silly, but that is what it is about.

Why would you want to write in a mood journal? There are many reasons. One, it is a way to remember things. It is easy to forget certain things and then you can look back and find them if you write them down. This helps keep your memory clear.
Another reason is so you can find patterns to your moods. You might notice that certain times are more exciting or fun than others. This could be because you went on an adventure the night before or it could be something as simple as having a pet or watching TV. By putting down the times of the moods, you can see if there are any commonalities among your moods.
You may also want to write down your goals. There are many times when I am excited to go somewhere, but I also know I will be bored or I will procrastinate and not do anything. By putting in the time to write down my goals and the things I want to get out of the experience, I am better prepared for how I will feel when I get there. Also, by keeping track of my goals, I have a feeling of urgency to work hard for those things and I usually do.
Writing in a mood journal helps you learn to appreciate simple things around you - such as a cup of coffee. When I am feeling down and depressed, sometimes I will take a small sip of coffee to lift my spirits. After awhile, I won't need it anymore because I have gained a perspective on the situation and I know it's worth the little bit of extra energy. By writing down my feelings on paper, I am giving myself permission to think about and act upon what would make me happy.
You may notice how you have changed over the years. Things that used to bring you joy now leave you drained and sad. Learning to be a happy, relaxed person takes effort. It is not something you can master overnight. By writing in a mood journal, I am being more mindful of how I'm feeling and what really makes me happy. Maybe, after a few months I'll write in a different tone altogether.
At the end of the day, you should always remember that happiness comes from within. There is nothing you can change outside of yourself. By keeping a mood diary, you can begin to understand what it is that makes you truly happy. If you find yourself taking things for granted - stop! There's no reason why you should do this and a good mood journal can help you find new reasons to take things seriously.
Keeping a journal doesn't have to be hard. It can be as simple as writing down what you feel when you're feeling good, or some other type of sentiment. It may sound silly and unnecessary, but moods are a major part of who we are. By tracking your moods, you can understand yourself better and possibly develop new ways to deal with the many ups and downs of life. When you notice that you're having a bad day and write it down, you can begin to develop new ways of handling difficult situations.
Many people who start keeping a journal tend to think it's boring or even silly to do such a thing. I completely disagree. I've been writing down my moods for over a year now and I've found it to be one of the most helpful things I could have done. Not only does it help me understand my own thoughts, I've also found it to be a great way to talk to myself (and others). It's great to write down things that make you laugh, cry, or think. These can be some of the most important things you will ever read.
Tracking your moods is an excellent way to communicate more with yourself. I often encourage people to write down their feelings and then I ask them questions to clarify them. By doing this, I am able to understand my mood better and be able to communicate with myself better. For example, one question I ask myself often is "what's my mood right now?" I then translate what I'm feeling and write it down in my mood journal.

In addition to tracking your moods, you'll want to keep track of other things as well. Things like whether you're happy, sad, angry, nervous, excited, bored, etc. These things can all be kept in a mood journal. Keeping track of these things will let you realize when you are in a particularly "down" or "up" mood.
