How to Handle Change and Adapt
If you're having a tough time making the necessary changes, here are a few tips on how to be adaptable so you can totally suck up anything that comes your way. Stop complaining. Seriously, what do you even do when something bad happens? Most people begin to complain immediately after they find themselves in an unfortunate situation. The problem with this is that it makes them feel helpless, vulnerable and desperate and this will definitely make them want to complain more, which only serves to worsen the situation.

Instead, let go of your expectations. When you feel something bad has happened, instead of automatically blaming it on your shortcomings, adapt your attitude and accept that you might have made mistakes and learn from them. Learn from past failures and adopt a positive frame of mind. Before you can be adaptable, you first need to understand why you did what you did. Failure allows you to discover your faults and flaws allow you to embrace change and adapt.
When faced with certain situations, don't run away from them. Instead, face them head-on and do your best to deal with them. Do your best to figure out what caused the problem and then figure out how to solve it. This is actually one of the most basic principles of adaptability - if you're not sure how to solve a problem, don't try to solve it. Doing so will make you feel uncertain and vulnerable and these are not the kinds of feelings you want to cultivate in your work or personal life.
Recognize your own strengths and weaknesses. Knowing your own strengths and weaknesses will allow you to be more adaptable because you'll be able to recognize your own potentials and weaknesses. You need to be confident and positive about yourself first and foremost, before you can show your friends and family your capabilities and potentials. By being confident and positive about yourself, you'll be able to take control and effectively deal with any kind of challenge.
Learn how to manage your coping mechanism. Your coping mechanism is basically the way you handle a specific situation that makes you feel uncertain and vulnerable. For example, if you feel nervous when you're given an exam, you might use your coping mechanism of jokingly answering all the questions confidently. Or you might freeze up when you're called upon to give a speech and give impromptu answers. Learning how to manage your coping mechanism is one of the best ways to increase your adaptability.
Be ready to change. Another key way to improve your adaptability is to always be ready to handle change. When facing a change, whether it's a big change or a small change, you must adapt and handle change by preparing yourself to change instead of resisting the change. Remember that you were once a sheep in the world, but you have the ability to become stronger and more adaptable. In other words, adaptability doesn't just mean dealing with change, it also means being able to grow and becoming stronger.
Overcome your comfort zone. Remember that comfort zone refers to the pattern of behavior that you've grown comfortable with. It's basically the thing that you tend to do so that you won't get discouraged when you face something new. While it may seem easier to avoid risk and tough situations, this type of behavior often leads to failure and less opportunity for success because people are not willing to change to face these situations.

As we've discussed, adaptability is an essential quality for successful people. If you want to achieve success yourself, you need to learn how to manage change and adapt. To improve your own adaptability, you should first identify what areas of your life need help. Once you've improved one aspect of your life, then you will be on your way to improving others.
