An Interviewing For Success
Success is nothing but the attainment of a set of desired ends. In its simplest sense, success can be defined as meeting a given standard of achievement. It can also be seen as the opposite of failure, or as the measurement of success relative to some particular point or criterion. Success can be academic in nature, but it can also take the form of financial success, personal success, and so on.

For the most part, defining success entails defining what is desirable. What is considered to be a success will vary from person to person, with what makes people happy being subjective in nature. On the social media sites, we see that happiness is measured by a combination of things: the amount of money one makes, the number of friends they have, their overall "social" status, etc.
Some people are happier simply because they have enough money to buy what they want, to go on vacation whenever they want, to enjoy life, etc. Others are more content with their financial freedom, with a sense that money does not grow on trees, that they have control over their future. The social media sites allow people to measure success by different standards-those based on monetary wealth, social status, personal relationships, etc. But how do we decide what is success?
We all want to be successful, but not everyone will achieve their goal of financial freedom. What makes someone successful, in terms of a social media site, may seem like total bliss, while someone who is struggling might see their achievements as nothing short of a blessing. How do you decide if you are a success or not? Is success just a label you put on things because you think they are what you want to be? Do you judge others too harshly, because you don't really see yourself as successful?
There are three major questions to ask yourself when assessing yourself as a success or a failure: Are you using your intelligence, your hard work and talents, or your social status? Do you want more money, more friends, more benefits? Do you want more from life, or would you trade everything for a few more months or years? Do you believe that personal success is inherently bad, while achieving success in your career is the ultimate good? As an interviewee, how do you answer these questions?
Success in terms of an interview can be boiled down to one of two things-happiness or unhappiness. Many interviews follow a "happiness" or "success" vs. "failure" format. If you are looking for a job, the interviewer will look at whether you're happy or if you could find someone who is. Happiness is seen as the absence of unhappiness, while failure is seen as the presence of unhappiness. But which is the real success: having a job you love, or not having a job you hate?
If you are looking for success in your personal life, happiness is harder to assess. How will you know if you feel successful? Your friends and family might tell you, but your self-esteem may not be based on how many friends and family you have, but on how much you love your own opinion. What your family and friends think about you is rarely the truth. You are the only one who know what you are capable of, and what you feel successful means to you.

Happiness is subjective, relative. If you are interviewing with an interviewer who feels success is relative to how much you enjoy your work, then you are not a candidate for his company. You should consider the interviewer's definition of success and decide whether you think you would be happy working at his company under those standards. Similarly, the happiness you feel about your personal success is relative to how much you think it means to you, rather than how many others think it means to you. The goal of an interview is to learn whether you would be a good fit for the company, and so the interviewer's definition of success is important, but ultimately yours should be the determining factor in your choice of interview.
