'Mandok Hata,' A Batak Tradition in the New Year

in #culture7 years ago (edited)

Meaning is conversing ahead of the new year. This is a habit of Batak people. Usually done during large family gatherings. Telling each other about reflections a year ago, apologizing each other then planning what to achieve in the coming year. It usually starts from the new parent to the smallest child.

If New Year's Eve like this might be identical to a fireworks party, or maybe a roasting grill. But other with the tradition of one tribe in the land of North Sumatra, especially if not with the famous Batak tribe Batak. There is one tradition that closely with the turn of the year like this for the Batak tribe. The tradition that has been attached from year-ketahun and has become a habit for us, Batak tribe

. Do not tell us we're going to Bundaran HI to see the festive fireworks, or in Ancol for the year-end party or at TMII or Monas, we'll probably go there after the family event. Very intimate show. Every 12 o'clock at night or at 00.00 the church bells in the village will go off for a whole hour, maybe this will be a substitute for the fireworks and joys in this capital city. There is a sense of missing with hometown (bona pasogit) just to listen to the bells during that time, because such conditions will not be found in overseas like in Jakarta. Imagine if there is an example of four churches that exist in a village / village like in my village, it will feel the joy of the turn of the year among the people because of the bells that pounding into the new year. This is the sixth time I did not hear like that (just vent ...). After that, the family members in the Batak Land will wake up and gather together, hold small services.

And this is what makes the youngsters excited and at the same time relieved. Degan-degan because it will pour out the heart to every family openly. Because .....after the completion of the service, one by one family member starting from the oldest member of the family will 'stab hata' or can we mean by talking
