Tiger Woods withdrew in the second round of the Northern Trust

"Super Tiger" had a slight strain and was unable to recover before the tee-off time, accepting early defeat at the 2019 FedEx Cup Playoffs event.

"I felt my muscle aches and I had treatment on Friday morning but didn't have much effect," Woods announced. "Unfortunately, I can't compete in this situation. I need a few days of rest to see how things work."

Tiger Woods previously admitted it was uncomfortable to play in the opening round, where he took 75 strokes (par 71) to complete 18 holes. During the pre-training days, the 43-year-old golfers only practiced chips, not enough strength to practice the driver.

"I want to to thank the New Jersey fan who came to the cheering court," Woods said before leaving. "I hope to recover for the BMW Championship next week. I really want to play there, as well as the Tour Championship. It's difficult to decide to withdraw from any tournament."

This is the first time the 15-major major owner has withdrawn from a PGA Tour event since 2015. Woods had previously not played a tournament after being cut off at The Open. In 2017, Woods withdrew after a Dubai Desert Classic - an event of the European Tour.

Woods certainly flew off the top 30 FedEx Cup scorers next week. That means he must attend the BMW Championship to earn a ticket to the Tour Championship - the final tournament of FedEx Cup Playoffs for the best 30 golfers of the season. Woods is the current defending champion.
