Nasir Jamshed Jailed For 17 Months

Former Pakistani opener, Nasir Jamshed has been sentenced to jail for 17 months for spot-fixing in PSL in 2018. Following the charges last year, he was banned by Pakistan Cricket Board anti-corruption unit for 10 years. The decision to sentence him for 17 months of imprisonment was taken on the 7th of February.

Jamshed has played 2 tests and 48 one day Internationals for Pakistan. He had encouraged players to underperform PSL. He was offered a share of 30000 GBP. In a match between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi played at Dubai international stadium, Jamshed encouraged Sharjeel Khan to play two consecutive dots on the first two balls of second over of the innings. PCB banned Sharjeel Khan for five years following this incident. Khalid Latif was also banned for five years as he was also involved with Jamshed.

It will mark the end of a cricketing career for Jamshed as he is aged 30 and won't be able to play until he is 40. At this age, cricketers either turn out to be commentators or make their retirement plans. Most of the players charged for corruption in the past are from Pakistan. It is very unfortunate for such a great cricketing nation that its players are the culprits. Pakistan need to take some serious steps to eradicate the corruption in their country.
