3 trillion ton of Antarctic ice/glaciers have melted in last 25 years, said experts.

Bad Effects of the climate change/Global warming
The climate changes have already started showing their effects. Experts are sharing their concerns about the Antarctic ice sheet which is melting very fast. According to the Experts’ report which says that about 3 trillion ton ice has melted and turned into water for the last 25 years whereas an increase in the melting speed of the ice has been noticed since 2012.

Melting Rate Antarctic Ice Sheet

Experts analysed an increase in the sea level and changes in the Antarctic ice from 1992 till 2017 and found out that every year in Antarctica, about 83.8 billion ton ice was melting but after 2012 the situation turned to be more dreadful because after 2012 the ice started to melt at the rate of about 241.1 billion ton which is 3 times more. It is a very alarming situation that causes an increase in the sea level.

Increase in the Sea Level

According to the experts’ consensus, the sea level increased upto 7.6 ml from 1992 to 2012, but from 2012 till 2017 it has increased upto 3 ml. Expert Andrew Shepherd added that earth climate changes are affecting the polar ice very badly. The western part of the Antarctic region has been extremely affected where annually 175.3 billion ton ice is changing into water whereas the ratio was only 58.4 billion ton in Nineties. Recently a large chunk of ice “Larsen Sea iceberg” broke free from the western part which proves to be a huge concern.

Good News

Good news is that an improvement has been noticed in the eastern part of Antarctica where 5 billion ton ice is increasing but it is not well enough to prevent the large alarming melting ice problem. Humans across the globe are taking steps to overcome this situation but we need to accelerate before it is too late.
