Lizards are a collective name for different lizard species found in warm climates around the world. The lizard is a reptile with scaly skin, and some lizard species can release their tail when in danger, but not all lizard species are able to do this.

There are about 5,000 different species of lizards ranging from tiny lizards that are only a few centimeters in size, to much larger and more predatory lizards that measure a few feet from the head of the lizard to the tip of their tail.

Most species of lizards are good climbers, or fail in sprinting that allows all different species of lizards to escape from danger in an instant. Some species of lizard are said to be very good at tethering themselves into solid material and it is well known that criminals break into homes, can use lizards almost like ladders, and therefore able to climb lizards into the house.

The lizard is a reptile which means a cold-blooded lizard. Lizards tend to be more active at night as lizards spend days basking in the hot sun in order to warm themselves. The lizards therefore can recharge their batteries during the day and can hunt successfully at night.

For most species of lizards, sight is very important both for finding prey and for communication among other lizards. Because of their very strained eyesight, many species of lizards have very acute color vision. When communicating most lizards rely heavily on body language as lizards use certain postures, movements and movements to define their territory, resolve disputes, and attract spouses.

Most species of lizards are not harmful to humans with the main (and obvious) exception of komodo dragons, which are the largest species of lizards in the world. Komodo dragons have been known to stalk, attack and kill humans that block their path, especially helped by the size of a large dragons. Some species of lizards have venomous bites but none of these poisonous lizard species are toxic enough to actually harm people. Generally, if bitten by a venomous lizard, humans will receive a nasty and painful bite, which is usually caused by a strong jaw and a lizard bite rather than the small amount of toxins contained in it.

Lizards lay eggs where baby lizards have a few months later. Some species of lizards, such as slow worms, seem to give birth to a young life but this is not technically occurring because the female lizards incubate the eggs on their bodies until they hatch rather than incubate them outside the body like other species of lizards.
