Thomas Edison: Inventor Or Entertainer?

in #steemiteducation8 years ago

Music has the power to stir emotions. It has an uncanny way of setting the mood we are looking for. In music we find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time. While music has been around since the beginning of time, it was in the 1870s that it reached households across the globe with just the touch or turn of a button. In 1877 the Phonograph, or what we now call the Gramophone, was invented.

This nifty gadget has literally changed the world as we know it, and who do we have to thank? Thomas Edison of course! While many before him had mastered the art of recording sound waves, Edison’s Gramophone was the first invention that could reproduce the recordings. While many inventors and scientists worked together to improve the music player and well, perfect it. It was old Eddy who set down most of the science and technology behind it.

Described as America’s greatest inventor (Wikipedia), Mr Edison has contributed to the world as we know it in more way than one. Not only did he get us dancing in our living rooms, but he also helped us capture moments with the invention of the motion picture camera. And then of course, there was the invention of the lightbulb! Some might say he was a born entertainer, since how could we enjoy a good night out without if genius concoctions!

While I never got to know the old chap, since he left this world in in 1931 (yonks before I was born), he has definitely influenced my life in more ways than one. I survived my teenage years by hiding in my room blasting my music, and during those years, only my music understood me. Now as a mother, I spend most of my time following my toddler around with a video camera, capturing those moments that are more valuable than any earthly possession. I’d say he has definitely made the list of the world’s coolest inventors!

Did you know?

Edison developed hearing problems at an early age. The cause of his deafness has been attributed to a bout of scarlet fever during childhood and recurring untreated middle-ear infections. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Edison

It’s quite ironic that the person who played a huge role in the advancement of sound, could himself, not hear very well! How weird and wonderful are they ways of the world?

wao nice post. Thomas Edison
great inventor.

Never thought of thanking Edison for the gift of music and dancing in the living room. It is something I have always taken for granted even though it is a favorite pastime and something I enjoy doing by myself and with company. Edison was quite the inventor and entertainer it seems! I wonder if he was much of a dancer ?

This shows that when people are in struggle, they can go over thier potentials. I am always thinking about the war times. At war times the technology jumps to a new age. For example, 2. War, the transistors which is the key invention for all electronics, are found.

Therefore, this come up with a question. Do people show their potential in hard times or happy times??

To think how boring our world would be today without his contributions. I say he is both entertainer and inventor!
