St Lucia - NOT THE ISLAND. This St Lucia is located in Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa. It's a beautiful destination. It's where my husband and I had our first holiday together as a couple and when we got married, we had our honeymoon their. St Lucia is know for its serene white beaches and its estuary which abundantly fulled with hippos and crocodiles. This little tourist destination borders a game reserve that is home to many wild creatures, including the big 5 (elephants, rhinos, leopards, buffalo and lions).

I'm not making up stories when I say that the hippo roam the streets of St Lucia, they really do! There are warnings requesting that tourists and the locals not roam beyond the main street at night, because stumbling upon a hippo is not uncommon. These humongous mammals can be heard grunting from many meters away, so they do give fare warning!

The town itself is small, with a few locals who mostly work in the tourism industry. There are plenty of restaurants and curio shops, as well as many lovely hotels to stay at. Things to do included: going to the beach, whale and dolphin tours, game drives, river boat rides and hippo tours and probably a lot more (we usually just stick to the mentioned). 

If you are looking for a romantic getaway or somewhere where the kids can enjoy nature and the outdoors, then I highly recommend that you visit this traditionally South African destination. One of my favorite places to be!
