Some line and perspective exercise

in #art9 years ago

Some simple stuff that helps me relax after a hard day is to do some exercising and improving my craft.
Some people think that it's easy to "git gut" at something... What the hell? It's like you are saying that a musician just grabbed a violin and just started playing masterpieces... this is not how things work in this world mates. Let me tell you why, This dude has spent the past 5 years practicing and enhancing his skills, not so many people realise that. They just see his performing and never think about his everyday routine... I've been into fights cause someone said to me- you have great talent.
-No i don't, you stupid spiritual cunt, i just grind my axe, making it sharper and sharper.
This is the pain and the love that artists have, it's not possible to chop a tree in a single hit, your ax is never sharp enough. There is always way to improve, adapt and be better in no matter what discipline you're in.
I'm sorry for this rant but i felt the need to share my feelings on this subject with you mates.
Lets get back to art, shall we?

The eye of the sleepless

i was drawing the whole night, and then went to the kitchen to get more coffee... And then i saw my eyes in the mirror... this is how the idea came in my head

Swords
drawings asembly3.jpg
you know that there is always one badass in every movie or book that wields 2 swords or a sword and a dagger, having a really strange fight technique, he or she always gets your attention and almost always steals the show. even back in the days with DND and diablo this could be a dual wielding dwarf ranger or barbarian with 2 gaint swords... just the feeling when you see such thing is epic, not just because it looks good but cause it's hard to do this. Have you ever tried to play with 2 knives at once... and you reallise you lack coordination? i did :D this is why i did this sketch. Badassness all the way mates

Details on the sword

Tools used: Black and red ballpoint pens; H pencil for making the rough sketches and 80g sheet of paper A4

Hahaha... yes, the talent thing. Makes me laugh and its highly overrated. Plus, I have seen too many of those oh so talented ones do nothing but "play" with paint 😜

Your work shows great skill and devotion and I like the thought behind your sword drawing. In my humble opinion, Hollywood, always exaggerating.. their today's creations are often so ridiculously "overarmed" that they'd most likely destroy themselves in real life ;-)

Hah, indeed and it makes me angry, cause those who say that there is such thing as talent, can't even explain what they mean by that. And in general what they mean is, that someone can do something that they can't. And then they point at a painting and say- this is talent. and i usually respond with - I can teach you to do it, and you might even become better than me. and they say- no no i just can't. It's like we are sacrificing a goat every night in the bathroom to the god of art and cover ourselves with its blood or something. :D Let's not talk about these dudes who paint their ears and say it's new age art...
By the way i saw really good quote the last month that says If it insults art, it is art when you think about it it's true. I hate to say it but it's true. No restrictions in this field... :D thank god we have science

You're so right about the movies 100%. That's why i like the classics like Lord of the Rings, cause we know that is a fantasy but then again when you look at their weapons and equipment, in general, it looks really true to the function. even in the novels The Witcher where you have heavily mutated human you can see the realism that is implemented and is staying true to the nature of fencing. When you look at some old medieval paintings you can see some really crazy dressed dudes, armored only with plate chest guard, clothes with bright colors and zwei-handers, enormous swords... they were mercenary lethal fighters. The movie creators can do whatever they want but if they back up their things with some solid background information it would be great :D
