Midnight work in progress (WIP)
I am doing a portrait for friends from my childhood at the moment, 7 hours work for now. No cigars left, no coffee. Yet i want to see them happy this will be my gift for them.
This is Joanna
still is clay like but i'm working on it. This time i tried to do it without line work at the beginning... My worst idea EVER! If you are drawing, please remember- ALWAYS DO YOUR SKETCH AT THE BEGINING! and ears are the last stage! :D
It's very lovely work you've done! :)
Thank you! But i'm far from done, maybe it will take more 7 hours to finish this one, and this is the first half of it. :)
I am very familiar with those kind of struggles. A painting I needed to finish because it was promised for an exhibition; I worked on it while I was sick. It turned to crap. 1 week later, once I was well again, I spent considerable time fixing those mistakes. Certainly good advice to start with a solid drawing first. Then the imprimatura, then glazing, then working on details. One cannot rush through these steps.
Good work so far, btw
Ooh Thanks
I know what you mean. I tried to test my knowledge. And here i am :D day 2 grinding my gears out. There is a reason why people do it that way, not like madman hoping for quick results.
Cheers!
I did a search about imprimatura, and found this young lady artist from Toronto had written a very illuminating article about it on LinkedIn: Secrets of the Old Masters: Imprimatura, Underpainting,Dead Colour Layer, Grissaille - so now I am trying to connect with her. She is a awesome artist! Jasmina Tuzovic
This sounds great i have to check it out, there is another book that is really important for people like us... like me i guess, cause i'm really chaotic in my work and i lose interest really fast as you can see. I will not even talk about the procrastination. I heard about it in i think it was Joe Rogan's podcast.
War of art
haha - we have a lot in common. In fact, without chaos, I cannot work. It is a dilemma because whatever I do has to be a trip into the unknown, but if I plot out and follow the steps, yes, I lose interest. There are several works of mine that started out as ideas for a painting (charcoal on panel) but once I had the charcoal done I could not stop exploring the details, but once that trip was over, painting over it would have become just boring work.

it seems we have similar urges. I did something similar a couple of years ago, it was more dark, body parts chopped off blood, gore but i could not finish it... is somewhere in the boxes with the other unfinished works waiting for me...

STOPgood starting!
WIP indeed but you got a good start :)
Thanks mate, here we go for start#2 and this time i have my coffee :D
The detailed lines of the hair are amazing, and the glint of the eyes. This may not be finished, but it it a terrific start!
@svdsdragunov I am sending you a message to your wallet. Please check with you have a chance!
Thanks mate! Well i should say it's just a brush i did for drawing hair. Those are the wonders of digital drawing, you can do the boring stuff really fast and concentrate on the important ones, like composition, details, shading and refining it to perfection. When i finish an engineering drawing i put it in photoshop and convert it into brush. This way i kill two rabbits with one bullet. So i can use legit stuff later.
