Gingerly But Optimistic Post
Soon after I discovered Steemit, it was clear to me , that right thing to do would be to put some seed into this fertile soil - to invest some money. Right time for that seemed to be after 4 July , to check in when others might start to check out.
However one problem remained. How could I explain that to my friends and relatives ? They are very conservative when money matters, to invest money into something you can't hold in your hands ... I know what they will be thinking : "now, Vasily got trapped by some sect, they will rip him off, after that he will start to try to get some money from us..." Ok, I do exaggerate a bit, but the main line of thoughts would be like that.
Then one idea came to my mind. I have a bicycle, but some problems with it had to be fixed. It so happened, that every time I prepared my tools to fix it - the rain started. So it just stood there.
If I sell it, and invest money in Steemit, it will not look so bad. I could say: "look, itis just old bicycle I don't need anymore . I will not sale my car. I will not sale my home." My reputation would probably survive )
So, I decided, next weekend I'll do that.
And then I started to contemplate.
We all know this story about Bitcoin Pizza Guy. Why not yet another story about Steem Bicycle Guy ? About some guy who sold his bicycle, bought some Steem, and one day found out that he is millionaire ? - Yes, I would like to get that role )
Then I tried to be reasonable. " look, what about all those people who already have much more Steem Power then you ? There must be hundreds ore even thousands of them ? " But it did not help - " Ok, they going to be billionaires then, who cares!" )
So, last Saturday I made an announcement on local website and on Sunday the bicycle was gone.
This transaction brought me 3300 rubles ( about 50 $) . That was an easy part.
Now I had to get some Bitcoin for it. It might be different at other parts of the world, but here it have a distinct flavor of doing something illegal. The dealers on LocalBitcoin making such strange looking conditions for a deal...
Thanks to @hipster who wrote and published a very play-by-play manual, other ways I would probably give up.
I've got about 0.08 Bitcoin. To convert it to Steem Power now. Done.
That was about 70 Steem Power - half of what I've been expecting to get, and at that moment I started to realize that long contemplating is probably not always beneficial )
Anyway, let's discuss the case after a few years )
Maybe we can work it out after all )

i think you're looking good now!
Well, today's estimate is 15 SP for 0.08 Bitcoin , amasing change in just two days )
I think I'm a superuser just bc I have more than 100 SP but I'm pretty sure I only spent .06 BTC . I bought 1.5 BTC of steem also. Can't decide whether or not to power up some of it.
The cool thing about all that is that it's so transparent. You can check out anybody's wallet. Then compare it to what he's saying . Then you can decide if it can be trusted ore not.
The guy who is sort of introduced all that staff to me, @hipster , wrote about 3 weeks ago that he would keep as much as he can in SP until Steem capitalization reaches 1 billion, after that he might start to power down a bit. At that time some people got really angry , " 1 billion - what are you talking about! - how it is possible? " )
Powered some up but happily took 75% + on the BTC. Maybe short sighted, who knows. If I'd got in cheaper (.0034) I'd be more comfortable riding it.
Steemd is great! ✌️
