Sustainable Development Goals: Global goals for sustainable development.

An end to extreme poverty, inequality, injustice and climate change. That is the core of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 193 member states of the United Nations (UN) have adopted this development agenda for 2015-2030. The agenda consists of 17 goals. These SDGs are fully called the Sustainable Development Goals but are often abbreviated to SDGs. They apply in all countries and for all people.

The fourth goal: Quality education.

Ensure equal access to quality education and promote lifelong learning for everyone

The MDGs in particular have improved a lot in recent years, especially for women and girls. At present, 91 percent of children in developing countries go to elementary school. The number of children who do not attend school has halved compared to 2000: from 100 million in 2000 to 57 million in 2015. But there is still a lot to be gained. Fifty percent of children with a primary school age who do not attend school live in conflict areas. And 103 million young people around the world can not yet read or write.

Primary, secondary and tertiary education

Because primary education is already doing very well in the world, this goal focuses on primary as well as secondary and tertiary education. By 2030 all boys and girls in the world must be able to finish primary and secondary school. All men and women must also have access to affordable professional, technical and higher education.

Quality

Within this goal, more attention is also paid to the quality of education. For example, students and students should be able to acquire knowledge and skills about sustainable development, sustainable lifestyles, human rights and equality between men and women. In addition, schools must promote a culture of peace, non-violence, diversity and global citizenship. This requires competent teachers. That is why more attention needs to be paid to educating teachers in developing countries.
