Sustainable Development Goals #10 : less inequality

Sustainable Development Goals: Global goals for sustainable development.

An end to extreme poverty, inequality, injustice and climate change. That is the core of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 193 member states of the United Nations (UN) have adopted this development agenda for 2015-2030. The agenda consists of 17 goals. These SDGs are fully called the Sustainable Development Goals but are often abbreviated to SDGs. They apply in all countries and for all people.

The tenth goal: Restore inequality in and between countries.

Income inequality between countries has decreased in recent years. But inequality within countries has only increased. Between 1990 and 2010, income inequality in developing countries increased by 11 percent. But income inequality has also increased within developed countries. The idea that economic progress is not enough to combat poverty is becoming increasingly supported worldwide. Economic growth must be inclusive. In other words, everyone has to be involved. And when we talk about economic growth, we also have to pay attention to social aspects and the environment.

Income growth

Goal ten states that countries should pay more attention to the income growth of poor people. The income of the poorest 40 percent of the national population must therefore have grown faster than the national average by 2030. Global financial institutions need to be better regulated and controlled.

Discrimination

Within this goal there is also room for migration. Migration and mobility of people must be organized better and safer. There must also be an end to discriminatory laws and practices that only increase inequality. Everyone must have equal opportunities and be involved in all social, economic and political aspects of society.
