My One Night Stand Story

in #contest9 years ago

After One year of chatting with Mikun on social media, I was really excited to meet him. We’d talked and talked, and being eager to see each other, we started using video calls. We’d tease each other and after our conversations, I’d wonder, how we seem to understand each other so much. Was I really attracted to someone I never met before?

When he told me he’d be in town last month, I dreamt of meeting him in 100 different settings. My favorite dream, the one I held on to, I dreamt that we’d meet at a snack stand, and we’d buy icecream and walk down a park and sit there and talk and share jokes that we’d saved, as we usually did, so we could laugh together. Then he’d give me a gift, a novel that we loved so much, my favorite author, and my heart melted.

But, because he didn’t have long to stay in town, we had to meet at a very busy part of the city, with so much noise that we could barely hear each other. When we met at the bus stop, he smiled, and extending his hand, he said, young lady, shall we?
I smiled sheepishly and gave him my hand, but only for few seconds. I reminded him how in this part of the world, couples don’t usually hold hands. He laughed and asked, “So you’d prefer a quiet proposal instead of a public one? Because I noticed the crowd made you uncomfortable”
“There’s only one way to find out” I teased him.

We walked down the busy road, till we saw a bowling center and restaurant. We entered there and changed into bowling shoes. I got a full strike on the first throw but couldn’t get it again, the scores were 58-102, with mikun winning.

We ordered pizza, and I made small talk about how I just wanted to let him win. We went to a zoo next, took a lot of pictures and moved on to a park.
The park was filled with a lot of machines. The ones that caught my eye was the rollercoaster, coffee cup, pirate ship and water splash.
Rollercoaster was like a small bus moving very quickly on a track that looked like rails, it had twists and turns that went very far above the ground.
Coffee cup had people sit in twos and it spinned round with great speed that would leave anyone dazed for at least 30 seconds.
Pirate ship was like a swing that moved back and forth, only the speed and height kept increasing.
And water splash was just like roller coaster, only that the small bus which only carried two people would splash water all over as the bus attempted to go through a lower track.

Miikun was afraid of heights, but when he tried the cofeecup, he agreed to try the others. At some point when the watersplash bus was going down he screamed my name, but he denied it when I asked him.
They sold icecream inside the park so we had some icecream. He insisted that he still wanted to eat ‘real food’ as he has undiluted Nigerian blood. We asked for directions on how to get to a place that sold local food. While following the directions, his eyes caught a small place that had some drawings on the door. He said we should check what happens there, we’re touring the city after all. When we entered the place, it was filled with wallpapers and even more drawings.

I told him I didn’t believe in horoscope but he said there’s no harm in it. A middle aged woman was sitted in the center and beckoned on us to sit.
Next she asked us to pick a card. I refused but Mikun picked one. And returned the card to her.

She looked at the card with some kind of expression that I couldn’t figure out. Then she said something that made my heart stop for a while. She said, “You two are great lovers. You’re going to be a great man, but she’s not in your future”

I turned to look at Mikun, but he looked startled and confused. Then he stood up and said it was all for fun and we quickly left the place. It was already dark outside. We found the eatery and ate in silence. After eating, he said, "look, she’s a liar, she has no clue. You’re the one thing, I will not lose."

“I told you I don’t believe those things” I replied. He just smiled and offered to see me off to my home. When we got to the gate he squeezed my hand, kissed me on the forehead and said, “I’d battle fate for you.”
I replied, “Good night Mikun”.
