The diary game- Jun 19 - knitting scarf

I learned basic knitting many years ago. My mom and sister in law are very good at it, but not me. I did not have the patience to learn and practice.

Couple weeks ago, I was inspired by one of the writer that I interacted on matters. He's a guy, but he loves knitting, and is not shy of it. That inspired me. I asked myself, why not give it a try? Pandemic is locking people in the house, other than work, reading and other stuffs, it may not be a bad idea to practice knitting.

Rushed to Michael's and bought the yarns and needles. Since I had some basic knowledge of knitting. I thought beginning with a scarf would be a great idea. Here I started. I know how to cast on, knit, purl and cast off. Theoretically I should be good to go. And I like wide scarf to keep me warm and cozy. So I started with 44 stitches! and I did one row knit and one row purl... I started to notice that the longer I went, the more curling I was getting with the scarf I knit. I didn't give it too much thoughts. I was thinking with blocking or ironing, it should help to flat out the scarf. So I finished the whole scarf! Then I found out, no matter what I do, it will remain curling with the pattern that I followed. It was obviously a failed product!

Lessons well learned, it taught me that before doing anything, don't take it for granted. Watching some videos, or reading guidance is probably a good start! I will probably start over later on with the first scarf that curls later on. I went to youtube to search for knitting videos, I was shocked by how many videos it has. So many people are teaching knitting online. Definitely a good place to gain some basic knowledge for a beginners...

After watching few videos, I started my 2nd scarf, this time with knit pattern only. And I also cut the stitches by half to 22. Nearly done, looks good and no curling, hooray! Can't wait to finish this one, and learn more knitting pattern. I may share with you later.
