ROCK THE HOUSE - Happy Sat Night - Joni Mitchell and Jaco Pastorius

in #music7 years ago (edited)

You get a little lucky and you make a little money!

Jaco and Joni together, was something of a peak in music for Jazz.

Hear for yourself, what a wild time! (Crypto Friendly Lyrics I must add ;-)

Here are the lyrics to follow:

I'm down to a roll of dimes
I'm stalking the slot that's hot
I keep hearing bells all around me
Jingling in the lucky jackpots
They keep you tantalized
They keep you reaching for your wallet
Here in fools' paradise!
I talked to a cat from Des Moines
He said he ran a cleaning plant
That cat was clanking with coin
Well, he must have had a genie in a lamp
'Cause every time, I dropped a dime, I blew it
He kept ringing bells
Nothing to it!
He got three oranges
Three lemons
Three cherries
Three plums
I'm losing my taste for fruit
Watching the dry cleaner do it
Like Midas in a polyester suit
It's all luck!
It's just luck!
You get a little lucky and you make a little money!
I followed him down the strip
He picked out a booth at Circus Circus
Where the cowgirls fill the room
With their big balloons
The Cleaner was pitching with purpose!
He had Dinos and Pooh Bears
And lions, pink and blue there
He couldn't lose there!
Des Moines was stacking the chips
Raking off the tables
Ringing the bandit's bells
This is a story that's a drag to tell
(In some ways)
Since I lost every dime
I laid on the line
But the cleaner from Des Moines
Could put a coin
In the door of a John
And get twenty for one
It's just luck!

I met Jaco, I was a bass player in Mesa Arizona in 1981, and he came into town, and he was touring his his own band then, Word of Mouth. My gf pointed out he was walking into the "john" and I should go chat him up, so I did (of course). and I'm there taking a leak next to him asking him what kind of strings he puts on his bass (rotosounds) and if he ever used anything other than a Fender Jbass, etc. "No, I just work with what I have.." I had one of those bass amps he used, with the 18" woofer. I thought it was interesting but not a modern sound; but he made it work, with the Jbass and playing a bit ahead of the beat.

Acoustic 360
I had one of those amps too!
So big, it would not fit in my car... had to buy a truck ;-)

I had a SWR 4x10 and the big ben 18inch.... Traveling with the band was Always a deal....Big ben took the whole space so I Always got in a fight with our drummer :). But I loved the sound of it, warm low. You didn't hear it even that good on stage. But the lowest sound was filling the venues......

I have the SWR with a 4x10, and that's enough for me..

Also a custom Sadowski JBass, and I put the pre-CBS fender pickups in it.

There is no better sound for me. I just happened to find a luthier that had the pickups, I was telling him I wanted to find a pair, and then he pulls them out of a drawer and gives them to me.
He was saving them for the right player...

Wow that's great, superb pick-ups. I have played a Sadowski once in Nijmegen at Paul's Bassmatters. Great instruments. Me myself, I have a custom made Bo~el made bij Huub Boel in the Netherlands. It is an 5 string Jazz model especially made for me. It's got a pearl-neck inlay like Dreamtheater's John Myung Always has in his Yamaha basses :). I'm fond of the instrument, it has the real Jazz-punch and funk. Instuments are like gloves....they have to fit perfectly :)

Jaco.....wow...One of a kind. With Joni, it is real magic.. I just added a post myself last week about Jaco (https://steemit.com/music/@verhp11/music-is-magic-music-is-emotion-7-basplaying-jaco-pastorius) Take a read if you like. Cool to see many more Jaco lovers on Steemit..

Take care and thanks,

Great article, thanks for pointing it out.
I hope you will do more, you obviously know more about many other artists as well. I have gone out of my way to meet Marcus and a few others. Sanborn, Miles, etc.
Married into Coltrane family at one time..

I will do more articles, music is my passion, thank you. Miles.....again another icon. Married into Coltrane's family....now that is neith :)

Just a classic. I especially like whenever the drums kick in a bit more, maybe cause I´m playing them myself :D
